Guest guest
hi everyone, my name is Bridget, and my son Ali(he just turned 3) was diagnosed about a month ago with scoliosis. He has been having a lot of health probs since nov 06,(diahrea for 3 months straight, anemia and he lost 8 pounds), they told us he was " failing to thrive " but in january we noticed a lump in his back above his hip. We've seen alot of doctors all of which had alot of different ideas on this lump witch trippled in size in a few months, well we seemed to just keep getting the run around and everyone we saw kept telling us not to worry it was probably a lypoma ( fatty tumor which is usually harmless). Ali's pediatrician told us to give it 6 months and come back for a check up them and we would see. I decided against this and went to Calgary Childrens Hospital for a second opinion. we are from Edmonton Alberta. And my gut was telling me this was something eles, the worst of course i was thinking a tumor. Within 10 minutes of seeing the doc through emerg Ali was sent for an x-ray and they told us he had scoliosis. The Lump was his HIP! We since then have and appointment set up with a othopedic specialist and have changed pediatricians. Ive also contacted the shriners here in my city as i've heard they are excellent with helping kids with scoliosis and hope things can get rolling with Ali a little faster with them as our health system here is sooooo slow. i did get the x-ray report back which stated " Scoliosis from T12 to L4 measures 18 degrees convex right. no congenital anomalies. There is a mild pelvic tilt with right iliac crest lower than the left. And I have know idea what this means. any help explaining this would so be appreciated. I guess i feel just a lot lost not knowing if this curve is something they will have to treat or if its not a big deal. So this was so long, thanks for any responses. bridget
