Oct 25, 2006 - Now that most basements have been pumped out after

the October Storm, the Erie County Health Commissioner is warning

residents to look out for signs of mold. It if spreads, it can lead

to health problems especially in people with allergies or asthma.

The health department says the most important thing to do is to

remove all moisture from the basement, including any porous material

that got wet like drywall, rugs, and paper. Once dry, areas of mold

growth should be scrubbed with a detergent solution. Bleach solution

is only necessary in areas that remain damp and should be used with

adequate ventilation as it can damage your lungs.

If you're sensitive to mold you might want to hire a professional

cleaning service to tackle the problems.
