Guest guest
Hi ph, in canada! Great to read your update! Its amazing how things can change over time. Here, in Ottawa, French Immersion programs recieve extra money to keep kids in the programs! I'm very suprised that they are not keeping the aides until high school - or until graduation. Did you check this with the school board? Maybe a civil rights things here. I like having siblings in the same school, if for no other reason than to keep an eye out for each other! Unfortunatly for us, it rarely happens - and they are in three separate schools in 3 different areas! We too are psych. shopping again for tom. There is such a lack of up to date professionals around here. The hospitals are being amalgamated and supposedly the best are being kept on - well since most are mediocre, i'm hoping there is more to the criteria than being considered 'the best' - like updating their credentials!! I had a similar incident with a psychologist recommending very innapropriate advice. They professional board said they can not monitor a specific 'method' of treatment. ya right. I wonder if if , or any other child, had been prescribed something incorrectly, if they would have been so passive at the hospital. It should have been taken to the ethics committee! I loved your swimming suggestion for our 'less then clean kids'! My mom used to send my sister to swimming lessons, i have a feeling that her motive was not entirely for the sport of it!! Take care, ph. New year, new beginnings! wendy in canada --- " J.M. Schreiber " wrote: .... My son is not officially diagnosed as OCD though at his worst he has had all the symptoms. He has been diagnosed with depression, bipolar and the current report says Generalized Anxiety and ODD (Oppositional Defiant). But, in the New Year, I am psychiatrist shopping again, at the school's request as his ongoing care at the Children's Hospital here was discontinued when their only recommendation for him, a special needs class, was refused on the basis that he wasn't receiving therapy or medication -- duh! .... So the teacher wants a psychiatrist to act as a liaison as we make decisions for junior high next year. .... For a while it looked like the French Immersion Junior High would be a perfect fit, but since students can no longer be assigned aides at that level he may have a problem without external support. .... I must say it has been good to feel like I am getting my son back. is on the whole much happier than he has been in years and everyone notices it. His younger sister is now in a special needs class for learning disabilities and is thriving. Fortunately the class is in the same school so the kids are able to go to school together and apart from the typical sibling tears, has been quite responsible looking after Ginny (something I would have wondered about a year ago). .... The best method I find for dealing with this is to put him in swimming lessons which he loves and which assures that he gets wet and his underwear changed on a semi regular basis. .... Finally 's comments about her son's psychiatrist were disturbing.' first psychiatrist who prescribed him all manner of goodies, got so bizarre by the end that he would fall asleep during sessions and wake up asking if we wanted to order pizza. I complained to the hospital but because he was on contract, all they could do was make note of my complaint. Several weeks later he was arrested to much publicity and fanfare, for bribing prostitutes with cocaine. ______________________________________________________ Send your holiday cheer with http://greetings.yahoo.ca
