Pamela,

Go to a store and buy 2-3 cans of the God forsaken regular CokaCola,

sorry. . .

Find some empty cans,same style, you know with the little pop top

opening and put enough coke in there to attract their attention. Put

the cans in the narrow mouse pathways tipped on their sides. The mice

like to go through those little openings to the dark areas and find

the sweet elixir. A mouse can't vomit or belch, sort of like the

horse. Anyway the concept is that they will die because they cannot

get relief from what the coke does to their little innards.

I know that purchasing from the " C " company goes against the grain,

but it is inexpensive and worth the try.

You can also mix baking soda and sugar together and they will eat

that with the same effects as the coke.

I don't know much about Lye. Is this safe to use in the house? I have a full basement under my old house and I can put the "bait" down there - what if they make it back outside before death? And the outside cats or chickens, are they still ok for them to eat? I have started a "grocery list" of what to get. As far as the Coke goes - could I use organic cola? Or does it have to be Coke? Hi Pamela,

We have an organic farm and winery in Northern California and have

rodent issues because of the food we grow, visitors who bring lunches,

and the winery kitchen. Our answer has been cats. We have quite a few

who do patrol duty and please the visitors at the same time. The other

partial remedy is sanitation; don't leave stuff around they like to

eat. But I must say we have no problems with the old fashioned

spring-type mouse trap; bait with peanut butter.
