I ask listmates whether they get any social services help apart from short breaks/direct payments to use for short breaks?

NO

Eg help with housing, with housework,

NO

with transport costs so the child can participate in activities,

NO that's supposed to be covered by mobility allowance

with help for family holidays that would require, for example, paying for a carer to come with you for the week?

NO but we could use DP for that

My SW told me yesterday simply everything is hold awaiting outcome of spending review, not sure if that is locally or nationally, she felt the cinderella services would go first like Sure Start, which has been very effective around here,. So silly when they'll be into crisis management instead without these local services and that will costs more in money and in distress to families. Come back Gordon is all I can say

Dear The others are right it is very much down to post code lottery when it comes to social services. If you post who your council is there might be a lister living nearby. There might be a local parent forum or advocacy service who can give you the lowdown locally. I shall see if I can find any national literature on this.
