Guest guest
A petition for kids' health A petition for kids' health Dear Martha, Last week, we earned a huge victory for children's health Due to your efforts, the House and the Senate passed bills to renew the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and provide health coverage for millions of kids. But since last Friday, something else has happened. Not two days after Congress passed the CHIP bills, we began receiving emails from advocates asking this simple question: What's the next step? Our answer: Keep the pressure on. The more voices that are heard, the better our chance of beating back a veto. We have teamed up with SEIU to circulate a petition on the need to fix our broken health care system, starting with our uninsured children. Click here to add your name to the petition for Congress to fully fund health coverage for children. Come September, the House and Senate bills will be reconciled in a conference committee, comprised of House and Senate leaders. Then the bill goes to President Bush for his signature - or a veto. If Bush follows through with his repeated threats to veto, Congress must be ready to override. Join thousands of other Americans to show your support for giving our kids basic, quality care. Currently, there are 9 million children that don't have health coverage - most of whom come from full-time working families. That means 1 out of every 9 kids go without regular check-ups. Not only that, children of color are disproportionately represented in the ranks of the uninsured. While Congress is on recess, we are prepared to continue the fight for children's health and fix this broken system.
