Guest guest
Steve, Only new carpet has a problem with off gassing. I believe your carpets were used and so already off gassed if they needed to. I already posted to you asking what time of year did you bring carpet into house and when did you start to feel bad? If you started to feel bad in summer then mold is likely as it can go dormant in dry cool time of year and be activated by summer humidity, any humidity that is over 50%. It could also be that they aren't moldy but toxic and your body just tolerated the toxins for awhile. Body has an ability to withstand a certain amount of toxins but when we get too many accumulated over time, our body can't get rid of them anymore and we become ill from them. However given your description I would guess moldy and humidity of summer activated mold spores to start to multiple and also produce toxins, both. --- shybasset <shybasset@...> wrote: > didn't come up////I sure wished you lived in my > city! Guest guest
-seems to me that no matter how old carpet is that if mold is in the carpet eating whatever is there it would be offgasing it. mold needs to eat and will eat on anything, it also needs moisture. you can have your indoor humidity down and still have moisture spots somewhere in your house, like the padding under carpet. I will never own another house with carpet in it.one of these days they may fiqure out just how bad carpet is, a catch all and a feast for mold and no dought plays a role in allergies.have any of you ever seen carpet being took out? even in the cleanest of homes there will be a layer of dust under the padding and there will be places where padding is wet from a spill long ago,wet foot traffic, things like that.pets and carpet dont go well together at all, neither do kids and carpet.I really fell that carpet plays a big role in indoor air problems. bug mites thrive on dead cells, mold exposure causes more sloughing of dead cells.roaches and mites thrive on mold, and spread mold. they also eat on things in carpet. I dont care how good of vacumm cleaner you have it does not clean the carpet good enough and doesn't even touch on cleaning the padding and what chemicals are left in carpet and padding with carpet cleaning? and moisture from carpet cleaning goes into padding. your carpet may look clean but what does the padding look like underneath? and whats underneath that? even if you buy a place with carpet and its not new, who knows what chemicals are hid there from before.maybe the house was fumigated, treated for bugs prior to you buying it and the chemicals used are in the carpet. -- In , bbw <barb1283@...> wrote: > > Steve, > Only new carpet has a problem with off gassing. > I believe your carpets were used and so already > off gassed if they needed to.
