greetings and Everyone,

in regards to your inquiry , i hope that following assists your

innerstanding overall. . .

first, discussing yerba mate is very appropriate for this forum. second, yerba

mate is an evergreen tree species that is native to tropical and sub-tropical

regions of the americas. " Maté-Ucha " is simply colloquial|slang for kombucha

brews with yerba mate

that the individual that you were quoting made up. that's all. yerba mate

leaves and stems can be steeped as a tea just like any

other flowering plant which produces herbs and/or fruits. please be crystal

clear, any infusions of water and any part of plants

can be classified as tea. tea is a signifying product from the perspective of

we humans pure and simple. so if one of us is say it

is a " tea " or " tea leaves " is defining the plants and their parts by the intent

of usage by us humans. it is always from the views

of our self-interest in relation to these trees|herbs|foliage|etc. remove

humans from this process and the plants grow meters!

camellia sinensis has several thousands of varieties currently known throughout

the world. it has been differentiated from such

fellow species as camellia assamica as well. , all of these names were

simply made up and designated after the names of

previously living persons, areas and regions of inner china and india. they are

not as " scientifically " determined as one thinks--

so, overall, what is called " tea leaves " is arbitrary based on the properties of

the plants{and all parts} and the purpose & desires

of the humans procuring these herbs. yerba mate is a " tea tree " also, yet it is

not the same species as what we derive " tea tree "

oil from. you see ? we make things up as we go along through the ages

and later on down the time-line treat it as one

'definitive' piece of f actuality or science. if you check the etymology of

either camellia assamica or sinensis, you will discover its

embedded racist undertones as well towards varied classifications of humans on

this planet. so why not give it your own name?

yerba mate does not just come from a bush! it is a tree plant. again, we

humans prune these trees just like bonsai trees, just to

a lesser extant so that they eventually have a stunted growth in their

lifecycle. just like most trees, they live well past a century &

can self-perpetuate their fellow kind. and to answer all your questions, you do

not ferment like KT. you ferment it with brews

of kombucha. hope it helps . just remember, no 'facts' are static in

regard to identifying various species of herbs|fruit!

the following is what i brew with currently and do humbly suggest for quality:

nativa[brand] brasilian wild-harvested yerba mate

creating renewed perspectives,

~Rezz

Subject: yerbe mate - Maté-Ucha

Forgive me if this is not appropriate for this group but what is yerbe mate

and Maté-Ucha and how do I make it? I read that yerbe mate is a leaf from a

bush and its steeped like tea, but do you ferment it too like KT? Tell me

more….please? Or can someone point me to a good resource? Thanks much.
