Guest guest
Have you asked your GP or Rheumatologist for any of the following: Lyrica, Oxynorm/Oxycontin, and/or diclofenac (aka Voltaren). A combination of meds works better for me in smaller doses with less side effects. I have found that one or two 75mg capsules of Lyrica separated by at least one hour in the morning followed by 12.5mg of diclofenac in the afternoon, and 5mg of Oxynorm at bedtime to do a great deal towards relieving my overall pain symptoms. Additionally, I keep extra Oxynorm capsules with me which I use when I experience an unacceptable level of pain. Remember, however, to keep a copy of your presciption or pharmaceutical Rx label with you when carrying Oxynorm, since this is an Category II Controlled Substance (or it was the last time I checked) that patient's with valid prescriptions should be allowed to carry. Check with your pharmacist to make sure!!! As for 'pot', our doctors here in the Netherlands can legally prescribe pharm quality hashish (and even Category I's) , if they think it might do their patient some good. It's also available in Dutch 'Coffee Shops', but the quality is not vigorously controlled and its mainly bought by tourists. ly, I have never used any of these types of drugs, since I am not convinced that they do not do more harm than good. On the other hand for those who are terminally ill with cancer, etc. I can see that it might help. Guest guest
Hey Darv. I'm Larry...one of " The Wild Men " of the group....actually, I am just crazy as hell...my beautiful one and a half year old Granddaughter looked at me yesterday morning and said " Paw Paw, Psycho " LOL .......cracked me up......out of the mouth of babes and all!!! In response to your inquiries: I am just going to dive right in.....I personally believe in doing WHATEVER it takes to cope with the pain.....that " WHATEVER " is different from one person to another....that is why I stress that my response is based on my PERSONAL opinion....Yes, I have smoked pot in the past to relieve my pain and would do so again if necessary......I have also taken " it in brownie form.....and, strangely enough, the brownie form was the most effective. And, yes, caution must be taken...there aren't many folks who truly understand the medical usage of MARIHUTCHIE.......I am afraid there may be some here who might end their friendship with me over this admission........but I believe in honesty, especially among and between members of this group....we are all on the same side battling this relentless dragon.....any information that can help another should be shared .....AND, it is my PERSONAL opinion that pot is an herb and like any other herb, it does have medicinal properties......the ONLY difference is its legal " status " . I had a friend years ago who would say " Man makes liquor, God grows pot: who you gonna trust? " Some truth to that statement! Anyway, sorry....I did not mean to go into a dissertation. Other methods I use to " control " pain: moist hot packs, cold packs, a TENS unit, slowwwwwww, easyyyyyyyy, stretches, some range of motion exercises with gravity as the only resistance, pacing activities, pain meds of course, and that seems to pretty much complete the list.....I hope I have been of some help to you, brother! Please keep posting......if I can clarify anything or help in any other way, please don't hold back...let me know. We are all in this thing together.... Many Blessings! Larry B. From Western NC -- Coping with pain? Meds? I tried taking prednisone and methotrexate and they had little effect other than to stop the fevers. Vitamin D did help some with my muscle pain. But the joint pain will just not seem to go away for me. I am currently coping best I can with Norco and Trilisate (a liquid NSAID). The Trilisate helps but makes my ears ring. Still, it's worth the trade off. Never the less, I wake in the AM, with my joints and muscles stiff. My wife brings in hot towels which seems to help and I down a bunch of the Norco. It takes about 1 to 2 hours just to get mobile moving. If my wife massages my muscles that seems to help too but it's a very slow painful process. Then the pain is still with me all day. It's not unbearable pain, it is just relentless and there is no end in sight. Even with the Norco, it is never totally gone. I'd like to hear back from folks on how each of you cope with the pain and morning stiffness of the disease? Any other suggestions, medications that have helped you that I can discuss with my doctor? I am also curious about whether or not anyone is using pot as a means to control the pain. It has been suggested to me but I am a bit leery of it and wonder about it's true benefit vs people just using their medical condition as an excuse. I've never tried any illegal substance but it has become semi legal in California depending on who you ask. If I were to try it, I would only consider it if I could do so without smoking it. Since this is a sensitive matter, feel free to write me off line. It is something I never thought I would consider. Thanks in advance, Darv
