Guest guest
If it’s the only way you can continue tx, I’d say do the Procrit. I was supposed to do Epogen, but insurance wouldn’t pay for it because they said it was off label use for hcv, but I said I’d pay for it if I had to. Doc opted to check my blood every week & let me keep going. I got close to the danger zone, but never had to get the Epogen. WW here and running scared again !!! Procrit anyone had that? Guest guest
Hi , what does off label use for hcv mean? We aren't supposed to take it or its not meant for hcv tx. I know on my script she had to put at the bottom anemia Rx induced need procrit support as I know from what I have read it never mentions using this for hcv patients. Mainly hiv and cancer and if hemoglobin is 12 or higher you run more of a risk of a fatality. My hemoglobin is only 11.0 and norm shows 11.5-15.5. However my red and white counts are extremely low wbc is 1.8 / RBC 3.29 so I am abit confused as usual lol. I have just got to set my mind to it I suppose just as I had to come to terms with side effects of tx. I shouldn't read that stuff I guess as it sets me off lol. How low did yours go? hugs Motley wrote: If it’s the only way you can continue tx, I’d say do the Procrit. Guest guest
They said it was “off label use” because it’s for cancer chemo-induced anemia, not hcv chemo-induced anemia. In other words, the insurance company didn’t want to pay for it because my anemia was caused by drugs for hcv & not cancer. So, like I said, my doc did labs every week to monitor the anemia & let me say on full doses. Luckily, I got right to the edge, but never too low. RE: WW here and running scared again !!!
