Guest guest
Hey , Ive only been brewing for about a month and a half but im pretty sure that a whole cup of vinegar would be too much. like i said im not sure, but im pretty sure the rest of the group would agree, a splash (one tablespoon) once a month it fine, however you may come up with an entire gallon on KT starter, if the scoby lives ;-( hey were novices, and in a little time we this will all be old hat, have fun brewing. -G To: original_kombucha From: twincitieserrands@... Date: Sun, 9 Jan 2011 21:34:19 +0000 Subject: New to group and question Hi All, My name is . I am new to the group. And I'm so excited to start this new adventure. I just got a scoby from another group member on Tuesday and started that evening. I brewed the tea with the sugar and added a cup of vinegar, since this was the first batch and I didn't already have Kombucha tea on hand. (which looks much, much darker than the Kombucha I've had in the past). Then I put my scoby in and covered. I tried a little today because I was curious of how it was tasting. (The straw sip thing) And it tastes JUST like vinegar water. YUCK. Did I do something wrong? Or will that taste go away the longer it sits. It will be 1 week on Tuesday. Or does it just taste like that on top, and maybe on the bottom it's different? I tried to follow the recipe exactly. The only thing I wasn't sure about is that the scoby is so big that some of it is above the liquid. So it is not entirely submerged. It DID start out entirely submerged, but I think some of the liquid dissipated, and now some of it is above the liquid line. Is that a bad thing? I wasn't sure if I should add some more water on top... or maybe I'm just worrying over nothing and I should just let it sit. Any advise is appreciated. Thanks. Guest guest
oh no. So how do I know if I killed it? what do you mean by a whole gallon of KT starter. I don't understand. I re-read Will's instructions and he says half a cup, not 1 cup. ahhhhh. I just killed my mother. maybe. I hope not!!!! > > > Hey , > Ive only been brewing for about a month and a half but im pretty sure that a whole cup of vinegar would be too much. like i said im not sure, but im pretty sure the rest of the group would agree, a splash (one tablespoon) once a month it fine, however you may come up with an entire gallon on KT starter, if the scoby lives ;-( hey were novices, and in a little time we this will all be old hat, have fun brewing. > -G > > > > To: original_kombucha > From: twincitieserrands@... > Date: Sun, 9 Jan 2011 21:34:19 +0000 > Subject: New to group and question > > > > > > > Hi All, > My name is . Guest guest
A good scoby is hard to kill ;-) if the scoby doesn’t dissolved and turn an off color yet metabolizes the sugar and yields something too strong to drink – then from what I understand, you may have an entire container of ‘starter’ for about 6-8 gallons of kombucha in the future. As I have said I am a newbie too so please just keep brewing and sharing you progress. Most sincerely, G in the KY To: original_kombucha From: twincitieserrands@...
