Guest guest
Dear Marge,  I have mostly gallon glass cookie jars and two large pickle jars that I brew in. I think people do continuous brew because it is easier but I would not like to be put in the position of trying to move a multi-gallon KT container. For the most part I use the tea bags over and over again because that is economical. I use the bags until there is little color or tea smell remaining. Someone here wrote that the first use of the tea bags had the most caffeine. I have fibromyalgia and sleep issues so I don't need lots of caffeine. I drink two or three cups of KT per day. I make it a point to drink it with meals because I believe it helps with digestion.  I really don't do much measuring when I mix my tea, liquefied sugar and water. I do make sure I have at least one cup of good KT poured on top of the scoby. The flavor of my KT seems to change. That does not concern me.  I am the only one in my family who drinks KT. Thank God for this group of KT drinker and brewers. At times I get a little harassment around here but mostly they leave me alone. My DH(Dear Husband) likes that it is not expensive.  My nephew in Oregon used to brew KT and my sister his mother wanted me to send him a scoby because she wanted to try it. That did not happen. Perhaps when my sister retires she will want to try brewing it and I will certainly send her a scoby.  So sorry that you have lost so many family members in such a short period of time. Surely they would want you live well and to celebrate their lives.  ann      Subject: ann, you said, " I am planning to keep brewing and drinking KT. " Me, too. To: original_kombucha Cc: prairiegirly@..., darla.schmitt@..., katerib@..., sharbel33@..., dmorning@... Date: Thursday, January 20, 2011, 8:07 AM  Dear Mmaryann, You seem to have the knack of brewing in large quantities. I don't understand just what routine one would keep with continuous brewing. That probably would be easier in the long run, but doesn't the flavor shift from time to time with different amounts of tea and sugar and starter added at odd times? And hubby helping himself? I don't worry about caffeine. Do you feel that your soaking the tea bags in water in the refrig removes the caffeine? Is there any flavor left in the tea? My son who made KT before I did, stopped because of fears of caffeine. His psoriasis had gone completely away while drinking his Kombucha made with black tea and ginsing. I got my first scoby from him. Our friend's daughters had brought them from California. Too bad. They no longer brew. Note: I don't believe using ginsing is acceptable anymore. He stopped suddenly, and his psoriasis came back, full scale, on his hands, elbows, and forehead. What if he had used decaf tea? Poor darling died in June. My foster son died in August, and my son, Rom, whom I cared for here for 23 years, died in a nursing home in October. A triple blow. Three people who called me their next of kin and needed me are gone suddenly. Have I stoped reeling and do I accept the Will of God yet? I hope so. Blessings on you all. LOve. MArge.
