Guest guest
Hi Marge, I remember seeing that site " Grandma Knows " years ago because like you, I too am interested in folk remedies and natural healing. We need to prevent all of that knowledge from being lost. Thanks for your informative post! Guest guest
Dear Marge, I've enjoyed your contributions. I'm a granny like you .. I do the vinegar/honey kombucha kefir and a regular with cayenne for congestive heart and high blood pressure ...also sea salt n lemon flushes occasionally .. For my IBS after yrs. of the docs doing no good & getting worse allthe time, my hubby & I started weaning off all the meds we possibly could & have reversed and/or managed most to where our health is about 100X better than 10 yrs. ago. Oh, dried mixed greens was one of my mainstays for all the nutrition they give since things like fresh spinach, lettuce, salads would go straight through me ... the dried worked! Also, I infused 26 or 27 different herbs into a couple gallons of vinegar (unpasteurized) .. I started with one, but by the time the dried ones gained weight I had to divide & then fill 2 gal. We used it regularly for a couple years. I now have to make some more & have apple scrap vinegar brewing. I am starting some wiki websites on life and recipes and remedials, among other things. They are not only the " full circle " of my life from life with kids, 2 divorces .. now with soulmate for 20 years steady, and from " Li'l Ol' RedHen " mom/farmer etc., to lawyer in Alaska, Nebraska, with tribes, (NativeLegal Eagle) so the websites are meant to help empower others from this and from hopefully a lot of contributors to the blogs where some guest blog spots will be welcomed and (forums when I get them up & going. Right now my content is spread out among the 12 wikis and just getting started to have it in place with much more to come. A preview peek could be had by going to http://redhens.wikidot.com which has summaries of the others on welcome page with links or otherwise the links are also in the side panel on each site too to go to the associated sites for preview. In some the content is under blogs, in some under WIPS, and in others under Articles. Its still somewhat discorganized. Cheers to all who are interested in healthy lifestyles and healing. Guest guest
Hello Joyce, great info you have posted. I'd love to know more of your herb infusion. Do you just grab any herb you get a hold on and put it in vinager for a couple of weeks (or more), or do you choose them in a way? . > > Dear Marge, > > I've enjoyed your contributions. Guest guest
Greetings all & .. your question: /I'd love to know more of your herb infusion. Do you just grab any herb you get a hold on and put it in vinager for a couple of weeks (or more), or do you choose them in a way? / Actually, the first time I made it ... it was a type of grab any kind I had & put it in the vinegar for infusion but I did " choose them " according to what I'de read about their healing qualities. I wouldn't be surprised if some actually contradicted or neutralized each other now that I've studied further of various qualities of the herb. For example: I've learned that some are warming, some cooling. Some are stimulating and some are calming. This is an area of research I hope to delve into yet. Meanwhile, that first time I put the herbs all together in amounts and proportions similar to how I may have used them in a stew .. by how well I knew the blending of tastes, or what to go easier on. I did not write written proportions as I went. I didn't write them down until afterwards that evening. Here is my " recipe " such as it is!! I will be posting this on my wiki website also. Please excuse the large font below. For some reason I cannot " reduce " it here after pasting it. (Darn gremlins)! *_My Herbal Extract Remedy_* *Ingredients: Thyme, Garlic, Ginger, Rue, rosemary, Oregano, Beet Stalks Dried, Celery Stalk Dried & lots celery leaves dried, cloves, Chinese 5-Spice spice, mustard seeds, dill seeds, dill weed ferns, parsley, onion greens dried, onion powder, cumin, Marseille Basil, Other basils, Vegie Powder, Dried Carrot tops, Tarragon leaves, Misc.fall-thru-the-dehydrator mixed veggie leavings, Rose Geranium, Alfalfa leaves, Borage, Fennel Seeds, Allspice, Peppercorns (mixed), Crushed Pepper and Vinegar. * *The ones to go lightest on for proportion is the Rue, & Rose Geranium. The rest as you like them. * *These dried leaves, spices, stalks should fill about 1/4 to 1/3 the container and the rest with a REAL vinegar ... not the usual imitation cidar vinegar. They will swell to be about 1/3 to almost 1/2 the container. * *By the time I've assembled all these even a small quantity of each for the mix filled my 2 gallons of mix. It will keep and " extract " more to the vinegar and distribute amongst the dried herbs the essences of all their vitamins, minerals etc. * *. None are absolutely essential ... but all contribute lots of " healing " properties to the mix. Remember: Every cell in our body is replaced completely at least once every 5-7 years. Will you provide yourself with the best in recreating materials? *
