Guest guest
Does anyone know what this means? I am just now, long story, getting 's xrays and paper work from our visit on May 31. As I am looking everything over the Xray Report says..... There is left lower lobe airspace disease that could represent atelectasis or infiltrate. From what we find it doesn't sound good, but I am thinking if it was bad they would have talked to us about it. Anyway just wondering if anyone else has seen this and if so what can you tell me about it. Guest guest
My niece suffers from atelecstasis...it is actually in her case considered a secondary effect of her severe asthma. what i can tell you in her situation is she takes a series of breathing medications to treat both and pain meds for the pain sometimes caused by the atelecstasis. usually atelecstasis is a cause of an underlying disorder. however, one thing would be to get more information on their findings...i would suugest seeing a pulmonologist, one who primarily treats children. lower lobe disease can also be a manifestation of tuberculosis. i can get more info from my sister on my niece's condition if you wish, but i would strongly encourage you to find out more about their findings from the films taken on that day. i would only imagine that if it were a severe situation, the radiologist who read those films would have contacted you or had the dr. contact you asap. needless to say, i would say to see a pulmonary doc. tracey Left lower lobe airspace disease? Guest guest
Tasha, atelecstasis I believe is a pooling of fluid in the lungs. I agree with Tracey that a pulmonologist would be able to tell you the most about this. I also agree that your doctor, you would think, should have mentioned the findings to you. Even if it is not concerning to them, you understandably want to know at least what it means. I hope you can call and talk with him and he will tell you exactly what was meant by the notes. Otherwise, a pulmonolgist would be helpful. Guest guest
Tasha, I have no idea what that means, but I hope it is nothing serious. I would call the doctor and ask for some clarification. Guest guest
Hi everyone..........thanks for your response. I just got a call from the nurse. Thursday is surgery day so I couldn't talk to his doctor. She said " Atelectasis/Infiltrate " is usually a normal varient related to a recent or resolving cold or cough at the time of the xray. She said it is often seen post operatively and resolves without treatment. She let his doctor know and he will take another look later to ease my concerns. This xray was also done with the cast on.............it makes me wonder if they are not seeing part of the cast?? Just wondering. Didn't ask. He goes Wednesday to get his cast removed and an xray done. They will check it again she said. That is if he is well. He has been running a fever for almost 48 hrs. So he may not be getting a new cast just yet. Say a prayer that he is just fighting something off. Anyway she said if it had been of any major concern they would have told us that day. And I do believe that. I just wish they would have explained it to me regardless. Sometimes I don't think the medical staff thinks that parents read everything. Thanks ladies for listening. I'll keep you all posted on this issue. I'll also let you know how things go, if they go, next week with his cast change. Take care, Tasha Claflin wrote: Tasha, I have no idea what that means, but I hope it is nothing serious. I would call the doctor and ask for some clarification. Keep us posted. Guest guest
My daughter has had that twice, once it read word for word what 's said. The doctor's explained it to me in this way- it is when a small amount of mucus gets into the lung and causes a small pocket of the lung to collapse upon itself. They treated if the first time with antibiotics because she also had pneumonia in the other lung (fluid in the lung as opposed to mucus) and the second time with breathing treatments. They said it was not serious or life threatening (the pneumonia was much more concerning to them). Also, when asked why it happened, they said her low muscle tone was a contributing factor. Months later we also found out through an swallow study ordered by her pediatric pulmonologist that she was aspirating just a little bit when she drank liquids (liquid was going down into her lungs instead of down into her stomach). We started thickening her liquids (cereal in her bottle) and she has not had any problems since. Good luck to you and I hope is feeling better soon. Left lower lobe airspace disease?
