Guest guest
carpet won't work in this case because i need hard surfaces. this is a house I am thinking of buying. a plastic sheet was laid on top of the concrete slab then plywood and the hardwoods were nailed down to it. Ideally, plastic should be laid under the concrete before it is poured, as I believe Carl recently stated. To test your concrete, place a large sheet of clear plastic over as much of your floor as you can easily cover. Tape the edges. Wait 2-3 weeks, preferably until after some severe rain which saturates the ground. If condensation forms under the plastic, the floor is not ideally suited for hardwood. You might consider some breathable indoor-outdoor carpet, or tile squares, with a narrow gap left between tiles to allow moisture to evaporate. ?PROPER WAY TO PUT HARDWOODS ON A SLAB Posted by: " Leigh McCall-Alton " mccallalton@... mccallalton Date: Wed Sep 6, 2006 8:34 pm (PDT) SHOULD I USE A PLASTIC LINER THEN THE PLYWOOD SUBFLOORING FOLLOWED BY THE WOOD ITSELF???
