Guest guest
Hi a, Thanks so much for responding. We have put in an official request for AB 3632 services. (For those out of California, this is the name given to the mental health services that much be provided to kids meeting certain criteria in California.) Unfortunately the County won't pay for the residential part of treatment as we made the request a few days after, rather than before, we had to get her into an out of state intensive OCD teen treatment program. (Hopefully our insurance will cover most of it.) The County mental health person will be at our next IEP meeting, and we'll have one when our daughter returns home -- in the next few weeks. What kinds of services might we be able to get? What would be useful? Of course she'll next an Exposure/Response therapist, but I wouldn't trust anyone the County might provide. What could we ask for in terms of help with school? Do you think having someone come into the home to help with ERT sessions might be a reasonable request? Stanford does have a once a week teen OCD group, and so that might work out well. I don't think that we have any other potential supports in place besides an individual therapist (who we still haven't decided upon). A " partial day program " was what was suggested as best, but I don't think that sort of thing exists for high school age kids in the Bay Area. Thanks for your thoughts. (By the way, we have a special ed attorney who we talk to but who will stay in the background unless really needed.) - > Subject: Re: Bay Area of S.F. Guest guest
Unless the therapist is knowledeable in ERP I don't know if i'd trust them being the quinea pig, although you could always meet the person first and see how open they are to learning. I think tutoring, social skills and life skills would be helpful. I looked into the program your daughter is at, and unfortunately no one has programs for children as young as my daughter[7]. My daughters school provides 45min a day tutoring in math and reading, a social skills group 1x week. The county offered family counseling and individual but as i mentioned, i did not feel comfortable with that. We have an appt. on Jan 8th with Margo Tinneman at Stanford to have Kendall evaluated as nothing has semed to help her. I recently reviewed information that leads me to believe that she has Pandas OCD. good luck! keep me posted! a
