Guest guest
Hi Robt, Thanks for info on how you have learned to handle your a/c. I may clean them then myself too, just in case. I guess I can just spritz them with something recommended here in group but how do you know you have gotten to the back of coils?? There is definately no visible mold on top of coils, even before I got germicidal light. What do you use to clean them with? When I say I turn a/c way down to wring water out of air, 74 is lowest I've ever put it. I have to put jacket on at anything below 76-77. Sometimes I put jacket on at 77 if I'm just sitting around!!! Just a few degrees makes a difference in humidity, may take it down a few notches, from say 55-50. --- Christ <antares41_41@...> wrote: > Barb, > I would not spend any money on a drip pan > unless it's leaking, or > going to leak or it has visible mold on it. > >

You probably won't even find this based on the way you maintain your unit but that does not mean microscopic organisms are not there just that you cannot see them. I only know my unit grows mold that makes me sick because I can conduct experiments where I get the same result every time. That experiment is to not clean the coils, when I do this I get sick without fail 100% of the times I try it. I have confirmed this even further though by finding black mold in the ducting and took it to a friends where I did verify it was not dirt but was in fact a living colony of something. Not being an expert I can only speculate it was some type of black mold being it was black and I know of nothing else it could have been. Best way to find a suitable commercial coil cleaner would be to goggle " ac coil cleaner " Here are a few links. http://www.rectorseal.com/ac.htm#coil%20cleaners%20and%20brighteners http://www.azpartsmaster.com/shopazp/Coil+Cleaners+-+Foam-A-Coil+(H415).html http://www.nucalgon.com/nucalgon/nucalgon_products.nsf/SelectCategory?OpenForm & C\ ategory=Coil+Cleaners+and+Sprayers http://www.cleanac.com/PowderKegs.htm Keep in mind that what I was doing was very impractical, that's why I finally moved, I was only doing it out of desperation, I had to do it or pay a price. Also understand that constant cleaning like that exposes you to the solvents and cleaners on a much higher level than even the manufactures intended for which is not good. Most cleaners warn you to rinse the product off well be sure to do this too. Again I believe if you don't have a problem anywhere in your house you don't need to be as obsessive as I am. I have a serious problem in my trailer. That's why I had to do this. If you have a problem in your home than in my unprofessional opinion you are going to have a problem in your ac which is going to be just as problematic to rectify as the home it's self. Your best option in this case is to focus on finding a safer place to live.
