Re: bed off-gassing

All I know is that after I read the article posted by Carl on harmful

chemicals that included those produced from foam padding in furniture, I

thought of

my all foam Tempurpedic mattress (this is my second, the first one being

left behind) and I just wanted to go put my head in the oven.... I then just

had

to laugh, a very sad laugh that only others on this site would understand.

This might seem like a stupid question but if my bed off-gassing IS what's

Do I just wait?

I think a bed is so problematic because you really need one (I have back

problems and can't sleep on the floor) and if you get another new one it could

be off-gassing ... and if you buy a used one it could have mold or bed bugs or

any number of things wrong with it that you couldn't see.

What do you all think??

Thanks again

Hi

I don't know what you mean by contamination exactly ..

do you mean mold contamination? I don't really think this mattress has mold --

but of course I could be wrong. The off-gassing is really my alternative

explanation for my symptoms, not in addition to the mold. I mean, I guess it

COULD be both but it seems unlikely in this case.

It's just hard to pull it apart. We spent a ton of money a few months ago for

this mattress and it won't be paid off for a long time, so it's the last thing

we're going to think about getting rid of. My symptoms started after we

returned from vacation. The mattress was still relatively new.

Lori,

I fully understand about not wanting to get rid of things. I will assume since

it is new maybe and hopefully it has not become an issue. (small secret, along

time ago I sold Filter Queen vacuums. One of the sales tactics was to show what

you could vacuum out of a mattress. Yuck. My point is I am scared to death about

mattresses anyway, mold or not so best not to listen to me on that one

anyway...lol

I use the word contaminated allot because there are so many things IE. mold,

dust mites, whatever so I just use the word as a blanket term to describe

something that has been exposed to an unhealthy element.. Hope that makes

sense..
