Guest guest
The author of the first comment has very similar writing style as the one I cited in one of the previous messages. Here she (I think) elaborated on her " adventure " , along with the pictures. The other comments are also indicative of the staggering amount of various hotels in Turkey which are severely infested with toxic mold. Some of the comments would be almost humorous if the situation wasn't so tragic. I am beginning to wonder: Even if there are some hotels in Turkey that are completely clean of mold, how on earth does nobody see the pattern that there are many hotels which are a real health hazard? Usually a person will change the hotel and think " oh, it's good now, we ran away from that hellish hotel, and we're safe now " . Now just think about all the cross-contamination possibilites... endless. This Summer was by far the worst, and these comments reflect it very well. As I was told, summers in Turkey are very hot and humid (temperatures are above 40 degrees Celsius - over 104 F). Add to this often appalling hygiene practices, water intrusions and air conditioners that leak inside... and you have all the ingredients for the toxic mold factory which will produce the worst toxins these fungi are capable of. (I capitalized words such as " mould " and " dirty " but did not change anything in the text.) ---------------------------------------------------------- http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g297972-d550997-r5693559-Majesty_Adak\ ule-Kusadasi.html Traveler rating: Kusadasi: Majesty Adakule: " Don't go to Adkule Hotel " Aug 22, 2006: A TripAdvisor Member, London View larger photos My experience with this property took place in:August, 2006 Holiday from 6th to 20th Aug 2006....ADKULE HOTEL Well were do i start, after we entered the 5*Star hotel thought looks good... then it went down hill from there. We was 5 intotal so had 2 rooms, got given our key to our rooms and told it was 2 floors down. So to me it was in the basement... The smell that hit us was of damp in the corridor leading to our rooms. The carpets in the corridor was all stained with black marks plus bleach stains. skirting boards were missing floors uneven. We entered our rooms they were big, but what a let down no balcony, mini bar was empty. bathroom full of MOULD. smelt of damp plus the air con did not work when it did it blow out hot air. Then started leaking causing the carpet to be soaking wet. My daughter that was in the other room, was just as bad even worst then ours. The cuboard to put our cloths in was full of dust so you can tell no one had been it there for some time. We called the rep desk to change rooms they said that all rooms was full. We never unpacked, that day waited for my sister inlaw & family that was coming to the same hotel the next day... She was shocked to see what she was getting for her money a big let down. My daughter had to move rooms because the air con leaked that much the carpet was almost floating.... we had a window in the corridor next to our room that was the sewage from the kitchens i think & the laundry that was running freely from some sort ot metal doors the smell was unbelieveble. It made our eye's sting entering our rooms, some night. The staff on the rep desk was not helpful in any way, plus the manager unless you was one of them, the food was ok but got a but boring after awhile... The swimming pool was to small for the amount of people in the hotel, it was like being on a dolmus. you had to get down early to get a sunbed. The best out of the holiday was the jetty on the beach, only problem was the bar closed at the beach at 5pm so was unable to gets drinks if you was still chilling on the jetty. Had to go to the pool bar that closed at 6pm, if after that time the Lobby that was a round trip of 20mins walking..... could not understand why they closed the beach bar & pool bar if the swimming pool bar did not close untill 8pm. We had the sheets changed once in 2 weeks, my grandson was sick on his sheets they turned his sheet around. The towels was changed after 4 days. It was so hot in the hotel at night we had to keep getting up to have a shower.... Because the air con, after a day being out in the sun you just want to cool down to get ready to go out in the even, no chance of that. you'd be sweating before you even leave your room for dinner. The Lobby had air con but they did not put it on... I asked if they would put it on, they said no cause the windows was open so we said close the windows then... They just laughted. I've lost stone just from sweating. [snip] We booked this 5*Star hotel because we had 3 birthdays & a 25th anniversary in our stay there, between 2 familys of 8.We paid alot of money for this hotel, and got a poor standard I would at a push rate it 3*Star... well I won't forget this holiday. Glad were back home but need another holiday to get over this one. I'm not a moaning English person as I'm married to a Turkish Guy. This is the worst hotel we've been to in the 18 years we've been going to Turkey... It needs a major re-vamp 200%. I've taken many photo's of the hotel & the room you would not like whay you see i promise you that. Turkey is great but not this hotel stay clear of it. ---------------------------------------------------------- http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g298033-d315218-r5794072-Baris_Aparth\ otel-Marmaris_Mugla.html Traveler rating: Marmaris: Baris Aparthotel: " Worse than Cell block ' H ' !!!!! " Sep 12, 2006: A TripAdvisor Member My experience with this property took place in:September, 2006Would I recommend this hotel to my best friend? no way! My and my partner consider ourselves quite down to earth so after reading some of the bad reviews I thought, ooh it can't be that bad... well it WAS! bad is the under statement of the year. We arrived 1.30am after travelling some time to the reception which I thought was ok. We were asked for & #163;52 straight away for the safe deposit and the air con. As the reception didnt have any change we agreed that it would be ok to give & #163;60. as the place seemed ok. As we entered a load locals shouted ' welcome to paradise' they must have been very drunk and had been in my opinion for some time!! As we were sent to our room 114 down a bright blue pyschodelic corridor we were a little discomforted by the shouting, swearing, banging and all the holes in the walls as well as THE STRANGE SMELL. As we entered the room the smell was unbearable, we quickly looked round, taking in THE MOULD all over the kitchen, bathroom, left over food on the work surfaces, the grotty bed linen, beds and settees, again more holes in the walls. The lovely view which we had of a rusty fire escape from the balcony against the brick wall of the hotel next door this was too much! We quickly turned round and headed for the nearest bar! After a few beers we thought we may be acting in haste-but as we returned it dawned on us this was as bad as you can get! We stayed 3 hours, not daring to sit down and asked the rep for advice. Once again from the reviews I must have had the same rep, very helpful, NOT!! We retreived our money, although only & #163;52 was given and quickly hot footed it! We went to Turan apartments, 100% better for the same price, this is when our holiday did start! I would receomend this place to anyone! If you are thinking about going to Baris hotel, please please think again. I know it is only classed as a 2+ hotel and you deserve to pay 2+ prices but I wouldnt be paid to stay here unless you wanted to NOT enjoy your holiday, NOT enjoy turkey and NOT enjoy a relaxing break. Please take my advice and cancel, go somewhere else, there cant be anywhere else worse than this place! I just wish I had now taken pictures of this place and then you could make your own minds up but I couldnt stand to stay there one more minute. As for Turkey it is my fifth visit I love it, the people, the views, the beaches, the weather is fabulous, second to none but as for the Baris, doesnt deserve the custom! My rating not 2star at all, try -10star. I was hosted at this hotel during an organised trip to turkey. The hotel its probably the worst i've been in my whole life. It is not a only 5 star hotel (in Spain there are better 1 star hotel). it is also DIRTY, ugly, with a non other-language-but-turkish speaking staff, with a bad bufé... We were hosted in the -2 floor, our room was FILTHY (the bath was FLODDED), the door didn't close properly, the drawers didn't open, the TV was old and 12' or less... But worth of all was the LACK OF CLENINGLESS.. the forniture were dirty, the shower has a suspicius BLACK COLOR... The hotel itself it's old fashioned, dirty and the staff was unpleasant... Avoid it! " Sep 14, 2006: A TripAdvisor Member, Glasgow My experience with this property took place in:August, 2006 Worst hotel I have ever been to. My partner and myself both works in hotels and we are aware the standards. We booked the hotel as the brochure said it had recently been refurbished and was 4 star. It was so bad that we did not even stay there we moved to another hotel. We were shown three rooms, each as bad as the other. The corridors we DAMP and DIRTY. The bedroms, well thats another story! The bed linen had holes which you could put your fist through, the wardrobes were either badly STAINED with possibly coffee or we could not get the doors to open. The carpet so worn that you could visibly see the floorboards. The bathroom had a cracked sink, hairs on the soap and scrum in the bath. The Mini-bar - My boyfriend actually got sick as there was MOULD, bottles that were so old that the labels were missing! Needless to say I would not recommend this hotel to anyone ------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g298033-d315218-r5785683-Baris_Aparth\ otel-Marmaris_Mugla.html Traveler rating: Marmaris: Baris Aparthotel: " welcome to the dog kennels " Sep 10, 2006: A TripAdvisor Member, england My experience with this property took place in:August, 2006 Would I recommend this hotel to my best friend? no way! hello to all. i have just returned from a week in marmaris in turkey. we stayed at a hotel called baris hotel. the first night we arrived which was 31/08/2006 we arrived at 3.00am. we were asked if we wanted air conditioning we agreed and the manager said to us that will be & #163;22 for the week. we had to pay as the weather was in the 40s when we were there. the following day we were all tired so we decieded to stay around our pool. it was full of people been loud and getting drunk all day long .that didnt stop there this carried on all night long till 4 in the morning. all the girls were just getting drunk and taking the men from the hotel (turkish) back to there room .it was like a knocking shop .the rooms are horrible two people couldnt walk around the the room at the same time they were that small .they were very DIRTY and we had blood stained bedding. we spent as much time as we could away from the baris hotel .we only had one thing to eat and left it .we orderd a hamburger and it came in a bag from the microwave. i found them very ignorant and did not want to help you they just wanted your money . everyone who asked us where we were staying when we said the baris hotel they all said (oh my god )every tukish new what it was like .i strongly advise anyone who is booking a holiday to turkey not to go near the baris hotel hotel. i found turkey itself a gorgous place very nice people infact i have already booked up for next year with my children this time. the turkish prople love children and entertain them all the time.so if you want a good holiday please stay away from the baris hotel in marmaris. dog kennels are cleaner. Bed linen and towels were cleaned " every three days " . The sheets did not fit the bed and invariably the linen and towels were STAINED, had fraying edges and holes! The food was the same every day and there were not any cold drinks available for breakfast. The cleaning of the bedrooms consisted of a change of linen (but only on every third day) and an empyting of a rubbish bin. The toilet was not cleaned once during our two week stay, as we were both ill with DIARRHEA and VOMITTING, so this was very easy to deduce! The food and drink within the hotel was over priced and not as they described " reasonable " . We had stayed four days before discovering hot water, hot water was rare and we were told that by 7pm daily all the hot water created by the solar panels had been used. If you have children and was given this hotel to stay in you would be appauled at the lack of entertainment available for the younger client. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Traveler rating: Gumbet: Anka Hotel: " Don't go , you'll regret it " Sep 14, 2006: A TripAdvisor Member, Darwen, Lancs http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g298661-d298837-r5799796-Anka_Hotel-G\ umbet_Bodrum_Mugla.html My experience with this property took place in:September, 2006 Would I recommend this hotel to my best friend? no way! Arrived at 6 am. There were Guests in reception who had been there since 11 the night before and had refused 3 rooms as sub-standard. Taken to our room. STANK like a blocked drain, sink smashed, toilet seat grimy and hanging on with a thread, fridge broken, no curtain over glass door, bed linen dirty and looked as though it had been slept in and to cap it all no balcony . NO way were we staying there. Management said they couldn't do anything til the rep came. Finally contacted rep who said couldnt do anything til 2:00pm , 8 hours later. Wasn't prepared to waste a day of our 7 day hol so left cases in the Anka excuse for a room and walked to Gumbet where we found a cracking hotel called the Ayaz Beach with a fantastic room and superb views. Negotiated half board for & #163;120 each and it was well worth the money. Must have been 4 star quality, both room and food. Anyway back to the Anka to pick up our cases and we decided to risk breakfast which at first glance seemed OK , OK that is except for the hundreds of flies all over the food and the dirty tables. You'll always get flies when food is served outdoors but not this many unless there's a hygene problem. That was the last we saw of the Anka until we returned for our transfer back to the airport. Thank god we hadn't stayed there. This time the reception was literally packed with guests complaining about everything from FILTHY ROOMS to food poisoning to theft from rooms and on and on and on. To be fair I think in its day this hotel was probably brilliant its certainly run down now, everything from the rooms to the sunloungers was filthy. If your reading this before booking, one word, DON'T. If you've already booked you have my sympathy. All you can do is accept that you've paid a 2* price and you'll get a 2* hotel. OK 2* is pushing it , should be nearer 1*. Otherwise do what we did and get down the spotlessly clean Ayaz and enjoy the views , the food and the friendliness of the staff and you'll be delighted that you spent a few extra quid for the difference between a 1960's bultins holiday camp and 4* quality. Good luck
