Guest guest
Westminster toy store likely to close due to mold damage By Marjorie Censer, Times Staff Writer Friday, September 15, 2006 http://www.carrollcountytimes.com/articles/2006/09/15/features/market place/market1w-01.txt Carroll County Online Westminster , MD A downtown Westminster store will likely close because of mold and water damage in the shop's Locust Lane location. Sydney Shure, owner of ideas etc. toys etc. ltd., moved from her previous location in 140 Village Shopping Center to downtown Westminster in June. Now she said she intends to sell her merchandise and then shut the nearly nine-year-old store for good. A July inspection of the store paid for by Shure and conducted by Westminster-based Mold Trackers found mold in the store's storage room and in the attic. There was also mold in the basement, on the ceiling drywall and on the insulation covering the attic's air duct system, according to a report submitted by Mold Trackers. Marcelli, owner of Mold Trackers, said there was visible water damage and staining in Shure's store. " It was quite obvious, " he said. Landlord Rosenberg said the problem will be fairly easy to fix and won't require Shure to leave the store. He said he already has plans to repair a leak in the roof and fix the damaged areas of the building next month. Rosenberg said the repairs will cost no more than $6,000. Mold flourishes in moist environments, so it's typically found in buildings with leaks, said Zeleski, assistant director of environmental health at the Carroll County Health Department. Marcelli said it doesn't matter how old a building is, it simply depends on the moisture.
