S.I. and meds again

My 16 y.o. son's SID has flared up again. There are very few things he will

wear--mostly only extremely old and worn tshirts, underwear, etc.

Everything inside out (seams). And no labels and tags is a given. Even

peer pressure doesn't work against it. He wore a daintily decorated but

well-worn white orchestra Tshirt from his elementary school years (with his

mohawk) when he played his last punk band concert! The rest of the kids

were in black clothes, studs, leather, etc.

Has anyone been successful with any kind of behavioral therapy, or is

" brushing " the only thing you've found effective? We have not tried the OT

brushing therapy since I was loathe to schlepp him to yet another therapist.

He's already on medication for his OCD (celexa).

Re: Re: S.I. and meds again

Hi again - I forgot to add in my earlier post that age does help quite a

bit.

Annie used to not be able to tolerate all kinds of clothes. I think age

has

helped that more than anything, and I think that's only partly due to

wanting

to dress " cool " . It has decreased to the point where I forgot to include

it

in my post - that says A LOT. The only clothing issue now is not wanting

to

wear socks or any shoes that tie (but that may be more OCD - an evenness

issue) or any pajamas at night. Hey, she even WANTS to wear a bra. And

this

from a kid who couldn't handle anything around her waist for years!

So hang in there, all of you with six year olds. By eight things

were better. By nine, clothing isn't even an issue. I just say every

morning,

" go back up and put on socks " without even looking at her because I know

she

will try not to wear any.
