Guest guest
Can someone advise me on the use of the weight belt. I have read that some view it as being useless? I try to lift every day and I have not seen a need for it personally, but many people at my gym have them. [For a start, hunt through our archives, because this topic was discussed in some depth at least a year ago. If you don't need a belt for training, then stay as you are, but if you compete and feel more comfortable and stronger using a belt, then use one. Research does show that wearing a belt can enhance stability and increase force production in certain exercises. The important thing probably is not to use it so often or use it tightly too often because of developing a great reliance on a belt for all training. Periodic belt usage, however, for maximal or circa-maximal attempts is not going to harm you. For more information on belts and lifting apparatus, see p458-9 of the " Supertraining " book or p212 of " Facts & Fallacies of Fitness " . Mel Siff] Hoge Las Vegas, NV jeffreyhoge@...
