Guest guest
Lori, see if doctor will order hair analysis for Doctor's Data or similar place. Also some health stores sell hair analysis kits. Blood tests will only tell high level of blood within recent time frame. Do it anyway, if he will do them but also do hair analysis since that will show what your body load is. It's unlikely you will have high blood lead levels unless you inhaled a large amount working with the lead paint like I did or ingested some (like a child might have and parent witnessed it, etc.). Is it only in bathroom and kitchen or all over the place? In the meantime keep house well dusted with those grab-it type products so it really clings to them and throw them out so air circulation does not pick up lead in air where you can inhale. Where a mask when you dust until you get it taken care of. You can remove wood molding and replace with new and paint with latex paint and replace windows affected. You can encapsulate it with paint that has tough exterior. There is a recommended paint. Your state will have info on guidelines for remediating. You will need to follow them or else disclose lead paint as an unremediated 'problem' with home if you go to sell it. Or, you can get professional mold remediators strip paint off and repaint, woodwork and windows. It isn't cheap. Anything with a 'fear factor' is expensive. Of course, stripping paint is a alot of work and then they have to take extra measures to protect themselves too. I was so bad off since I dry sanded the paint with no mask on. I'm going to take myself out of the 'do-it-yourself' business. --- Lori Baur <lori@...> wrote: > Lead tests were positive. > > Not sure where I go from here. Guest guest
Hi, thanks again for all of your helpful information. I think my doc will do a hair analysis if I ask. I'm going to get the blood test done tomorrow. The exposure would be within a recent time frame, though, especially if it is what is making me sick. I am not sure if the lead is everywhere because the test pads are so small we did a limited number of tests. I may go back to Home Depot to get more. We are in an apartment and we are planning to move into a different apartment within the next couple of weeks on the other side of the complex. The landlords are cooperative. We tested last night in the new apartment and it did not test positive anywhere for lead. We are doing mold cultures in both places right now. But at least we do not have to deal with what happens with renovating this place or taking out the lead paint, since we won't be here anymore. I was very relieved to find out that the lead tests in the new place were negative. Lori
