Guest guest
Okay, more rambling - I finally started my nutrition course this week. I'm very excited to be doing it, but I keep getting discouraged. It is soooo hard for me. All of those huge words. My brain does NOT retain stuff well at all..grr... I have the first 4 chapters read, and that took me about 15 hours! UGH....... Darcy, What nutrition course are you taking? Is this the FiTour one? If so, please email me any issues you're having a hard time with and I'll be glad to be a study buddy. I actually have to renew that one by February, so I need to refresh my memory for the test too. Guest guest
Hi Tonya!!!!Thank you for the offer - you're too kind Actually, this course is ISSA. It's a lot more detailed than the FiTour one. I would like to remember a lot of the stuff but it's sooo hard. Like all the different types of amin acides and what they are for...etc..UGH.. I am just going to take my time and not try to rush through it. Any study tips though?!Darcy Okay, more rambling - I finally started my nutrition course this week. Guest guest
I didn't take this course (or any others like it) but studying (anything to do with school) is one of the things I'm good at so what I'd suggest is taking detailed notes about the things you're most likely to not keep straight. The combination of visual learning (reading the text) and kinesthetic learning (using your body as in writing the words) helps to create a stronger link in your brain. Get a third sensory activity in by saying it out loud as you read it and as you study what you've written and you're going at it 3 different ways to help yourself absorb the material. Not rushing through it is excellent too because my tips take more time but they work great for my son who has learning disabilities. Guest guest
just adding on to my own post... I should have said too that I used the same techniques when I was in school and they really helped. (Didn't mean to imply they were for people with learning issues, they are for anyone.) Guest guest
Darcy, What book are they using? I know the two different nutrition courses I've done both used different books. Maybe they are using one of them. Endurance Sports Nutrition is the book from FiTour and while it was okay at almost 300 pages, I actually preferred 's Sports Nutrition Guidebook which was for my diploma program. It's a little longer at almost 400 pages, but the info was easier for me to absorb. Not sure why. Anyway, I went through both of them with a highlighter and hit the stuff I really needed to focus on to remember. That seemed to help me. I also like to take notes and go through the formulas with my stats so that they stick in my head better. The more I went through the formulas, the better they stuck, so I determined nutrition needs for my entire family and then re-did them all multiple times. Don't know how much that will help, but good luck. Guest guest
Thank you for the tips! There is a huge curriculum guide that goes with it, that I have to do. I do believe it helps too. I will try to say it outloud more often as well. I agree it does help. Guest guest
Try reading the summary, headings and questions at the end of the chapter before reading the chapter itself. You may need to make flash cards as well. JenTonya - wrote: Okay, more rambling - I finally started my nutrition course this week. I'm very excited to be doing it, but I keep getting discouraged. Guest guest
Thank you everyone for the tips on studying!! It means a lot. I just need to slow down and read it over and over again! I am averaging 2 - 3 hours a day, and I'm just on chapter 6. Oh well. I want to LEARN it! Darcy Try reading the summary, headings and questions at the end of the chapter before reading the chapter itself. You may need to make flash cards as well.
