Guest guest
I have heard of this. I think it is something called Sara's diet? Guest guest
Some ideas that might be useful. I've just been reading " Thyroid hormone increases the conversion of carotene into vitamin A and possibly aids its absorption. " (from http://www.smj.org.uk/0804/carot.htm but I'm not recommending the article). Eddie had a big big preference for yellow food - he really loved butternut puree as a baby. He went VERY yellow when he was poorly. He just didn't convert carotene at all to vitamin A. I've read many children don't do this conversion and the article above suggests it's OK (I'm not sure I can agree) - but both Eddie and I have benefitted from supporting our thyroid. I still don't give Eddie carrot. He also reacted badly to brocolli** and peach when he was at his worst and I am still cautious about yellow foods. He does have swede now and there are carotenes in Brainchild I think. I did read somewhere that avoiding yellow foods was a good idea for ADHD .... found it see " Avoid Yellow foods, especially corn and squash. (bear in mid that bananas are white, not yellow!). " in http://www.healthviews.co.uk/csp/hv/site2/articleview.csp? a=295 & title=ADHD-Treatments-For-Children ** " If it weren't for chlorophyll, broccoli would be yellow " http://www.dietitian.com/vitamina.html Best wishes, Sandy > > I finally worked out that one of 's biggest offenders as far as causing > his nappie rash are carrots and apricots both of which contain beta carotene - > is there any other reason that he might be so awfully allergic to both of > these? Guest guest
We had quite an orange/yellow kiddo when he was little. Supplementing thyroid (armour) and/or chelation has made him perfectly able to eat beta-carotene foods without turning funny colors. I suspect a large part of this is the thyroid supplementation. Guest guest
Oh Blimey Darla, Horrible to lose a major part of his diet but, trying to look on the bright side, nice to know sometimes what’s wrong specifically with our kids. Are you coping? Lots of kind thoughts across cyber space, Sara x Beta Carotene/Carrots... I finally worked out that one of 's biggest offenders as far as causing his nappie rash are carrots and apricots both of which contain beta carotene - is there any other reason that he might be so awfully allergic to both of these? He breaks out within about 20 minutes of eating either of these - he ate 4 dried apricot halves last week and the rash was so bad he couldn't walk because of the chaffing! (He is also reactive to peaches in the same way but they don't cause as severe a rash as carrots and apricots.) They are two of his favourite foods and if I take them away we are left with just about 7 or 8 solids that he will eat...his tolerance to supplements is so low that I have had to take him off of every yeast fighting item...this is getting really hard as he can tolerate so few things! Guest guest
just had a look at my food lists and apricots are Medium and carrots are high. My hubby has problems eating raw carrots, they make his throat sore, and i had sort of assumed it might have been something to do with the high oxalates, now i am going to have to rethink that, maybe its the beta carotene?
