Guest guest
By the way, I meant to ask how old Grace is? And what weight? It must make a difference to the dose we can give. is 71/2 month, a whopping 24lb! So I can't usually follow advise boxes on sides of packet anyway, he usually goes off the scale in age/ weight ratio!! Thanks ,
Guest guest
and i thought olivia was a big baby!she's almost 8 months old and weighs about 20 pounds.so that makes her 95% in weight and 75% for height on the charts.my boys were always on the smaller size--my youngest hold his own at a steady 2% on the charts.what's up with the benadryl/will the baby be flying? Guest guest
I've used it with Grace for her runny eyes, allergy symptoms with the blessing of her pediatrician If you decide to try it, I would give it a " test run. " Due to the immaturity of their nervous systems, some children experience the opposite of drowsiness (Yeouch!). NOT something you would want to experience 20,000 feet above the ground! A different kind of advice to normal needed here!! Afriend suggested I use Benadryl to calm my 7month old. The pharmacist I saw said I could use it in small doses, 2.5ml at a time. On the pack it says under 6years, consult a doc. Does anyone else use it for their little one?? I'm from the Uk and not familiar with your 'kiddy selection yet'. It says it causes drowsiness, which will be wonderful as we are shortly flying back to UK for a visit, and he NEVER sleeps!!! IT'S A LONG 10 HOURS. Guest guest
I hear you there, ! Grace is about 8 1/2 months old and 26 lbs. She's wearing mostly 2T's and I've bought some 3T's for later in the spring or summer. The only problem with 2T's is they don't take into account for a diaper! Guest guest
Hi, thanks for your reply. will be flying back to UK with us on Friday . Initially, a friend suggested Benadryl as a sedative for the next time we have cast for a head band, we went on Tuesday and had a very rough time. It occurred to me that we might be able to utilise sedative effects on our flight. I have mixed feelings now, as some folk use it with the blessing of their ped. , whilst others are advising me not to!! I guess it's like the SIDS thing, tummy/back, you takes your choices and your chances. Sorry to make an issue over this, I was just interested in whether other moms of young babies had used it with no ill effects, Thanks for your comments
Guest guest
: Check with your Peds to see if Benadryl is appropriate. Anti-histamines such as Benadryl can cause the REVERSE effect on kids, that is , an idiosyncratic reaction of AGITATION / tremors / irritability. Your child may have gas pain which can be managed with Mylicon (simethicone) , gastric reflux treatable with Zantac , or just be teething. Again, your Pediatrician is the person whom should suggest treatment , not a Nurse like me or a friend. Guest guest
Thanks for your reply. It seems from the replys i'm getting that all kids react differently to this- isn't that what make the 'little darlings' so fun at times!!!! I'm going to give it a trial run tomorrow in daytime so I can monitor effect! !
Guest guest
A note from a grandmother. Years ago my pediatrician advised using Benadryl for my " antsy " daughter ( age 2 and a half) on a flight to Hawaii from the east coast. She was " off the wall " the whole trip and never slept at all, even though she was normally a good sleeper. I would definitely advise a practice run first! Later my pediatrician admitted that some kids have a reverse reaction! Guest guest
I would never use a medication on a baby that was not absolutely necessary. Judy
Guest guest
I admit it, we have used it for flights, but I thought it was tylenol. For us it worked, but a trial run does sound like a good idea. We didn't experience any excitement side effects from it, good luck! Guest guest
Hi, I couldn't help but reply to this post on Benadryl. I have a three year old that on occasion has thrown unbelievable tantrums that last approx 2 hours- no exxageration! We finally figured out it's been times when we've given him Benadryl. When we told his Dr. she said it wasn't that unusual for a child to have side effects like that from different meds. I am happy our first experience with Benadryl wasn't on a plane or I and everyone else would have had to jump out with a parachute!
