Guest guest
IgA, IgA and IgE are common types of immunoglobulins/antibodies, immune cells. There are also others like IgM and IgD. Maybe someone else can answer this more fully. I think from what was said here the other day IgE (which I have high amounts of) are the kind of first responders or type 1 immune reactions and the others are kind of a deeper level??? My serum IgA is actually slightly out of the normal range on the low side. Lori [] Re: 20 " Box Fans /LIVE SIMPLY Hi everyone, I am new here but have been lurking. Am wondering what is IgA? I tested positive for a lot of IgG and IgA antibodies for the same mold...also just IgA for other molds and just IgG for penicillium notatum. Thanks V > > depends of which subclass of ig you have tested. Guest guest
Hi Lori, thanks for the response. I knew about the 5 classes of immunoglobulins, but am a little hazzy about IgA, in which I was tested positive for many times...some with IgG and some not. All IgM were in the normal range. I have read that IgA is " found circulating and secreted on all defended body surfaces, as the primary defense against invaders....and IgA inhibits the binding of micro-organisms to mucosal surfaces, thus preventing entry. " I just was curious as to how IgA, and also IgD for that matter relate to duration of exposure. http://www.hon.ch/Library/Theme/Allergy/Glossary/iga.html Also if anyone could stear me to a link on this, or a book to read I would appreciate it. Guest guest
The most common immunoglobulin types are IgM, IgG and IgA. IgE and IgD are minor classes of immunoglobulins (Ig). IgE antibodies are the type of Ig involved with allergic reactions. When the body mounts a defense against a foreign substance the first type of antibody it produces is IgM. This is a large antibody molecule and its presence indicates a recent primary response to an infection or other antigenic stimulus. This primary response is followed by the secondary response where the smaller IgG and/or IgA antibodies against the foreign substance are produced and these antibodies provide a longer term immunity. The presence of these antibodies to a particular substance indicates that you have been exposed to that substance and can indicate immunity though this is not always the case. If it is an antibody to a virus for instance, you may still be infected as viruses hide inside the cells in your body where the antibodies cannot reach them. The presence of IgG and IgA antibodies to a species of mould indicates that you have been exposed this mould however my line of work is in a completely different field of immunology therefore I do not know what it indicates about your immune status. _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Lori Baur Sent: 04 September 2006 17:34 Subject: [] IgA etc. IgA, IgA and IgE are common types of immunoglobulins/-antibodies, immune cells. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for the response to this. I appreciate everyone's responses. I will keep searching for an explanation of what IgA and IgG relate to immune status. I'm really curious about this. V > > The most common immunoglobulin types are IgM, IgG and IgA.
