What should calendula infused oil smell like?

I infused a pouch of dried calendula flowers from Frontier Natural Products in a

mixture of apricot, almond and grapeseed oil. I used a small slow cooker, and

after an hour or two the oil was 150 degrees Farenheit and smelled sort of like

french fries so I turned the slow cooker off and let the oil cold infuse in the

slow cooker for a week to ten days.

Then strained through a clean organic paper coffee filter lining a tea strainer,

into a clean Mason jar.

The smell still reminds me of french fries, sort of toasty. It could also be

described as a lightly cooked smell. Not a burnt smell, not a bad smell, but

not what I was expecting.

The dried flowers had a sort of clean herbal smell, and the oils were all

organic oils straight from brand new bottles. Brand new slow cooker, too.

Did I overcook the infusion?
