Guest guest
All you need is about 8-10oz cold water and a spoon to stir it. It blends really easily with no lumps. If you put it in a blender or shaker bottle, be careful. It turns to nothing but foamy bubbles really quickly. It's definitely not meant to be a thick " milkshake " consistency. It's more like juice. > is it to be mixed with water and not with ice? I want to use it as a > meal tomorrow. Can I just take it to work and mix with water? Guest guest
OK, learning here. I don't know much about the supplements and meal replacements. Does anyone here do the program with just plain food, no bars, shakes, powders, etc.? Actually I do use a powder... just soy protein powder I get in Wal-Mart. I mix it in my post-workout chocolate milk to get that runner's magic 4:1 carb:protein ratio, which is presumably going to change now. Sometimes I put it in the carb gel I make for long runs. You don't want to know what this gel is. Bill would die. Honey. A couple swallows every hour on a timer while on a long run. It's way cheaper than commercial carbohydrate gels. On a 3-4 hour run I consume up to half a cup of honey. I mix in some unsweetened Kool-Aid powder to cut the sweetness. I take a generic multi-vitamin/mineral tablet; vitamin C 500mg/day; vitamin E 400mg/day; glucosamine+chondroitin 1500/1200 for joints; garlic tablets for cholesterol; cranberry tablets for my bladder (prone to infections); no muscle-building or calorie-burning or performance-enhancing stuff. I'll probably learn more about that when I get the book but... Does anyone use just plain food? Just curious. Ellie Bought Syntrax Nectar now what? is it to be mixed with water and not with ice? I want to use it as a meal tomorrow. Can I just take it to work and mix with water? Any other time I have to use ice with protein powder and make a real shake. So please what to do? But several people said apple is good. Either way I will use it up. thanks for recommending it.
Guest guest
I've been on and off BFL for years. Sometimes I do it with only food which is totally fine. > > OK, learning here. > > I don't know much about the supplements and meal replacements. > > Does anyone here do the program with just plain food, no bars, shakes, powders, etc.? > > Actually I do use a powder... just soy protein powder I get in Wal-Mart. Guest guest
Lots of people do the program with no supplements. The shakes and bars are a convenience and not a necessity. Real food is better if you have the time to prepare it. If you haven't seen it yet, be sure to check out the Eating for Life book. It's full of great BFL meal ideas. http://eatingforlife.com/recipes Do you feel like you're getting good results with the soy protein? A lot of fitness people prefer whey protein. They avoid soy protein isolate due to the hormone issue. It tends to raise estrogen levels and lower testosterone, which can spell doom if you're trying to build muscle and get really lean. In big doses it can cause PMS like symptoms - bloating, nausea, breast tenderness, weight gain, the whole trip. That's just the powdered isolate though, and only if you're really sensitive to it. Whole soy foods don't seem to be an issue for most people. > OK, learning here. > > I don't know much about the supplements and meal replacements. > > Does anyone here do the program with just plain food, no bars, shakes, powders, etc.? > > Actually I do use a powder... just soy protein powder I get in Wal-Mart. Guest guest
How about casein protein? I bought some to use at night if I get sick of cottage cheese b/c it's slow releasing and whey is quick releasing. Skwigg wrote: Lots of people do the program with no supplements. Guest guest
Yes, Syntrax Nectar is just whey protein, not a meal replacement. You would still need a carb. I usually have it with a bowl of cereal. :-) > I just got the apple too. Shouldn't we have a carb with it? >
Guest guest
Casein is good. Egg protein is good. Soy may be fine for some people and problematic for others. There are lots of different proteins and blends to choose from. There's nothing really wrong with any of them. > How about casein protein?
