Guest guest
An obvious nevertheless true one is fresh mowed grass. I really like hay though some might argue with the color of its smell. Geranium is nice when tempered with softer notes (it can be a bit abrasive if used with a heavy hand). Citrus can smell a bit green. I had a hard time deciding between then because each one gives me a wonderful burst of green in a different way. The galbanum gives a sharp and pungent, instant shout of green. It can fairly shriek it if one's not careful with it. The cilantro is pungent as well, but not quite as sharp - it sparkles green. Sweet woodruff is pleasantly and politely green. It doesn't holler green, and it's aptly named. It smells sweetly green. The sweet of grasses. Then there's nettle. Talk about a muscular green - a deep, earthy green. It's assertive, powerful. I didn't include the mints. Not sure why, but I guess I felt that they were more stereotypically green. I left out violet leaf too. Again, not sure why. It's definitely green and I love it. Cheers! Guest guest
> love all the answers so far. is tarragon in the list yet? yarrow? hyssop? the hay abs I have has a definite fresh cut grass note still trying to find a place for Aussie natives in my NP life, these ones are different kinds of green: Australian White cypress - Callitris columellaris - fresh, camphoraceous, but not as much as eucalyptus; a little sweet and sharp, its 'shape' to me is long, dark silvery-green, thin and flat - it does have a hint of the er um.. toilet freshener about it! Aussie White Cloud - Melaleuca bracteata - sweet, there is a floral note to this deep, quite self-contained one, not a fast moving 'top' note; a bit syrupy or balsamic, a little cloying, its 'shape' is tightly packed spherical, it seems a very very dark green. Australian Blue Cypress - Callitris intratropica - a sweet fruity floral hits you first, a bit sharp and penetrating, with a soft powderyness in there somewhere; hidden behind all of this is a silvery-green, spindly, needly 'note' or shape. The whole thing makes me think of a strange flower which is a bit reminiscent of over-ripe banana in its fragrance, growing on a thing with silvery-green/grey needles instead of leaves. Go figure! Maybe I'll just throw them all in together with some galbanum and see what happens! Anyone else playing with the Aussies? I'd love to hear what you do with them. Guest guest
For St. 's Day, time to revive the TOTD: what is your favorite green aromatic or perfume or nature smell? Yes, this is surely a time for green scents.... I will have to say the mints, clary sage, rosemary, pine needle, juniper berry, maybe spruce and fir. Cucumbers, with their fresh, watery, greeness are wonderful. The hydrosol is quite nice. And although it is usually considered a floral, I really feel that mimosa smells really green to me. In fact, it smells almost identical to cucumber to me, maybe a bit more powdery and airy, but with that same watery, fresh, green quality to it. I've been using it a lot lately(St Patties day soaps). Lavender absolute is kind of green, in a sweet, meadowy kind of way. And maybe the eo has a green quality to it too. And certain citrus types are rather green too; certainly petitgrain(especially since its from a leaf), and neroli is rather fresh, leafy, herby, citrusy with a hint of flowers, I think mandarin is quite green for a citrus, and lime as well(maybe its the color of the fruit that makes me think that), and there is a bit o' the green in both bergamot and tangerine as well. Oh, by the way, I got both an insult and a compliment on one of my blends. Its something I wear all of the time that I'm rather fond of, and it is rather green, at least initially, but the base is heavily vetiver(which is exactly what I wanted). The funny thing is, I don't exactly remember what went into it. I'm sure I wrote down the formula(god I hope I did), but I think there is spearmint in it, maybe lime, definitely jasmine g. and vetiver, and I think clary sage and maybe a blend of lavender/clary sage/tarragon that was already another blend that I threw in. Plus a few squirts of either ambergris tinture or castoreum. I know it sounds like a disorganized mess, but I feel it works and I love it and I swear I wrote down what I put in it. So, the story was....I decided Tuesday, since it was St Patties day, to wear something green, scentwise as well as color-wise. So I drenched myself with this mixture( I just cant seem to come up with a name). As I was leaving for work, getting on my coat and such, my mother said " What are you wearing? " And she made a face. I told her its something I made, and I may have told her some of what's in it, and asked if she didn't like it. She said no and she told me it was really strong, maybe because I just put it on. and that it smelled piney and all but that she didnt' care for it. I told her that I liked it, so there! And I left. When I got to work and went to my work station, as I passed my work partner she said " What is that smell? I that you? Cause it smells GOOOOD! " " That smells really good. " I felt a lot better after that! Recent Activity 5 New MembersVisit Your Group Give Back for Good Get inspired by a good cause. Y! Toolbar Get it Free! easy 1-click access to your groups.
