Mold needs water.. where is the water coming from? Sheetrock needs to be kept dry.. Can you give us more information?
Guest guest
If you go to indoorairresearch.net they have instructions on how to use clear scotch tape and a clear plastic ziploc bag to take a tape lift.. If you have someone else take a photo of the location, and collect the tape lift, and fill out the form, that is best, if you ever end up in court.. Document your interactions with your landlord.. After you do the above, ask them again to clean it up, in writing, and keep a copy in a safe place.. (not your apartment, if they make it a practice of coming in like many landlords do..) See what they do then... If its on sheetrock, they need to 1. eliminate source of moisture.. 2. remove moldy sheetrock.. 3. replace it with new wallboard... Make sure they don't spread the mold around when they are doing this. If the mold is making you sick, they could make ths situation much worse if they don't know what they are doing or if they are careless.. The mold dust could be very toxic! Read the EPA's " Mold Remediation in Schools and Commercial Buildings " for more information on containment.. (BTW, an apartment is a commercial building) You can get a free account on flickr.com so you can show us the pics, but be aware that the people on here are not (in most cases) pros of any kind and even pros can't identify mold from a photo on the web.. For that you need a lab and they need tthe sample there and they need to use a high-powered microscope.. Landlord-tenant situations are also often a complicated situation, and if mold isn't making you sick, you have to weigh the pros and cons of dealing with it yourself vs. asking others to do it. But if you are a mom, and your kids are there, or if you are getting sick, they really should use professionals to clean up any more than a very small patch of mold.. There often is much more inside the walls too.. be aware of that..
