Check the protien to carb ratio ... higher carbs that digest faster (lower fiber)usually creates a craving for more food because of the insulin response to it without enough protein to stop it. joni
Guest guest
And that, so simply stated, finally hit home with me when I read it. That is EXACTLY the story of what happens to me. Anytime I eat a carb-laden meal, I'm SOOOO hungry afterwards. I've heard this before, and read it before, but this is the first time I feel as if I understand it. Thank you for re-stating it. n At 07:07 AM 5/31/2006, you wrote: >Check the protien to carb ratio ... higher carbs that digest faster >(lower fiber)usually creates a craving for more food because of the >insulin response to it without enough protein to stop it. >joni
Guest guest
Joni, I agree and also don't agree. I can see that the protein to carb ratio is higher with the oatmeal. But ww bread isnt white bread, there is still quite a bit of fiber and the nuts add fiber. Plus I added in fat which should slow down absorption of the whole meal, don't have any fat with the oatbran meal. Net net, I would think that the carb ratio is about the same. Double the calories in the toast meal, but the carb ratio is still about the same. The difference is I added healthy fat instead of protein to make up the difference. > Most likely ... > Oatbran = higher fiber than 2 pieces of ww toast also with less > carbs than two pieces of toast. > Check the protien to carb ratio ... higher carbs that digest faster > (lower fiber)usually creates a craving for more food because of the > insulin response to it without enough protein to stop it. Guest guest
> Net net, I would think that the carb ratio is about the same. IMHO its still about what kind of carbs even if the ratio is similar. The way to test this would be to have the original meal of cottage cheese(?) w/oatbran BUT have larger portions of each to see if you are then hungry to then compare that its not just the eating more thats making you hungry and that its what youre eating that is behind the stomach grumbling :-) joni
Guest guest
> IMHO its still about what kind of carbs even if the ratio > is similar. Just a general comparison..not knowing what brands or kind of bread tho.. Oatbran 1 cup = 25 grams carbs (5.7grams fiber included) no sugar Whole wheat toast 2 slices = 24 grams carbs (2.4 grams fiber included plus about 3grams sugar)... (note to self: 4grams sugar = 1 tsp sugar) Most peanutbutters have sugar added too .. creamy/2tablespoons = 3 grams sugar .. all the above from http://calorieking.com So yeah all carbs are not the same even when they are considered good or better carb choices - some fill you up more and some dont. joni
Guest guest
Jami, OK I'll grant you that the carbs are differnet. No doubt that oatbran/oatmeal are 'stick to your ribs' cereal that keep us full longer than ww bread. Still, I only had 1/2 c oatbran (50 measly calories), no extra fat, fat free cottage cheese. With the ww toast I had all-natural organic peanut butter, no added sugar/fat/etc. Just peanuts ground up = 0 sugars. I will have to do the controlled experiment, I guess!! I just thought it was interesting. I've upped my calories and in general I feel hungrier and have a grumbling tummy more NOW than when I ate fewer. >>>>>> > IMHO its still about what kind of carbs even if the ratio > > is similar. > > Just a general comparison..not knowing what brands or kind of bread > tho.. > Oatbran 1 cup = 25 grams carbs (5.7grams fiber included) no sugar > > Whole wheat toast 2 slices = 24 grams carbs (2.4 grams fiber > included plus about 3grams sugar)... > (note to self: 4grams sugar = 1 tsp sugar) > > Most peanutbutters have sugar added too .. creamy/2tablespoons = 3 > grams sugar .. all the above from http://calorieking.com > > So yeah all carbs are not the same even when they are considered > good or better carb choices - some fill you up more and some dont. > > > > joni >
Guest guest
I agree with Joni on this. Personally, wheat in MANY forms triggers my hunger in a way that oatmeal or rye crackers never do.
