Guest guest
>>What smells does your >>mother remind you of? >I haven't got a clue, I will have to ask her. I see I misunderstood, it's not what smell my mother associates with me, but what smell she reminds me of. Don't know really. But I guess when I smell her, I associate it with femininity, love, a warm home. But no particular smell comes to mind right now. Guest guest
> Anais Anais My mother still wears it. When I think of her that smell immediately comes to mind. Synth though it is, it's an elegant floral for sure.
Guest guest
> > What smell reminds you most of your mother? What smells does your > mother remind you of? > ---------- Whenever I smell a subtle yet gorgeous veil of fragrance, say, after someone has left a room, yet there is this intriguing veil of fragrance in the air, I think of my mom. She likes - and forgive me for mentioning any synthetics - L'Heure Bleue, Heure Exquise, and Beautiful which would include: tuberose, violet, rose, vanilla, and sandalwood. Additionally, the smells that remind me of her are the sensual smells of cashmere, smoke, snow, spicy red wine such as shiraz, the smell of the sea, and soap smells like shea butter and brazil nut. (and oil paint - she's an artist!) npvanilla
Guest guest
> >>What smells does your > >>mother remind you of? Actually I must say that two smells remind me of not only my mother but of my grandmother as well. Outside the house at the back door entrance which we all used were two incredibly fragrant plants. One huge Gardenia bush and one Osmanthus tree which was also very large. The gardenia bloomed prolifically and the Osmanthus fragrant blossoms came in the cold December January time. Sometimes while salking just the fragrance of gardenia would waft past my nose when I lived on the East coast and I would feel so special, like magic happened. I venture to guess that the associations we have of safety and magic solving of problems and good food to come that we associate with well being and mother, and then there is " Mother Earth " . Fun to be long winded with you listening ears and fragrant noses! Bb

She's been wearing it for years. I was 14 when we first travelled to Paris and went to the Guerlain shop where the sales assistant recommended the scent based on my mother's coloring. It does suit her even 30 years later. Maggie

Guest guest
I'm sure some of you have warm fuzzy thoughts of 'mom' and her smell.........not me. I have sort of 'both'......bad is cat urine and too many critters in the house which is why i raise a fish...., avon, CHARLIE (holy mother that was awful) but on the other hand sandalwood, frankincense and myrrh and yes.......she liked strawberry incense , my black lite poster and Iron butterfly. Youth Dew (pheee-eeeew!), Ciarra <sp?> (gag), Cerissa <sp?> (gag again) - those are the gross icky ones. It's been so long that there are no smells that remind me of her. Probably a really good thing. Andrine
Guest guest
Let me start with the possible base notes, Fresh-ground Coffee,Caramel n Cream..she begins her day with a mug of Cold coffee Softness of Vanilla and Warmth of incense,my mom's like a creamy cake slice with a Dash of Cinnamon.. Exotic Musks and Spicy DragonsBlood,Mysore Sandalwood Let me add Honey for her mellifluous voice, she's such a good singer! and the heart notes can be.. Ylang-Ylang, for her mellowed beauty and a whiff of White Florals for her fresh smile. There is nothing sharp and piercing about her presence, she gleams on like a huge pearl. I would choose Violets and BabyPowder for the top notes for her girlish " heartitude " ..

Guest guest
What smell reminds you most of your mother? Her lifetime favorite perfume, White Shoulders. Fresh roses, my parents had them planted around the perimeter of the back yard close to the fence. What smells does your mother remind you of? LOL, Rose scented bathroom air freshener that does not cover-up the offending odor. Vinegar and a filthy home that has not had it's windows open for decades. Unfortunately my mother has had OCD (hoarder) for most of her life. As she got older she developed senile dementia and the symptoms got worse. It reflects in every single aspect of her daily living and habits. The yard at one time obscured what conditions could be found in her home. I wouldn't wish this on anyone! Having it or living with one that does.
Guest guest
________________________________ What smell reminds you most of your mother? What smells does your mother remind you of? Norell perfume. Both my mother and my grandmother put it on the moment they stepped out of the shower throughout my whole life. To me, Norell isn't even a perfume. It's the smell of femininity, pure and simple. Tom
Guest guest
> What smell reminds you most of your mother? Fabric stores; Mum once owned one. Cheap fatty lipstick. Ok, so Mum uses natural hemp-based ones now, but some kisses you never forget! Pressed face powder. Her pillow. Aussie National Parks - over the years, Mum has camped and walked in most of them, from WA, to Qld, the NT & NSW - rainforest, scrub, mangroves etc. What smells does your mother remind you of? L'Air du Temps, with a slight sheen of feminine sweat. A certain recipe Mum cooked far too often in the slow-cooker; a tough old steak, tomato and Worstershire sauce kind of thing... yerrk. Boiled fruit cake, at the moment when you add the bicarb soda to the hot fruit and spice mix in the pan... fragrant alchemy. Home-made ice cream with condensed milk as the basis. Guest guest
Hi, The first thought of my mom is her scent. Its like seeing a big huge bouquet of roses, floral scent with a slightly spicy note to it! hmmm...saffron and sandalwood! My dad, wow so long time ago. He died when I was so small. But the scent is still in my thoughts! Tabacco, amber and citrus scent. He was such a happy and friendly person! Angi :0)
Guest guest
Oh, what a wonderful thing to think of. My Mom has been gone for two years now and I have a bottle of her " White Shoulders " on my dresser to smell every once in awhile. But just general smells of the kitchen and cooking remind me of her. But this question got me thinking too of the flip side - what smell do we want our children to associate with us for those of us who are parents. I certainly thought of my mother as nurturing and so the smells I associate with her are nurturing. I would also like my children to associate nurturing smells with me. Hmm, what scents are nurturing?? Sagescript http://www.sagescript.com Microbiology, Distillates, Natural Skin Care
Guest guest
" White Shoulders " is what she always wore... although I do have a soap fragrance I created called " Dans le jardin de mère " that I describe this way: " White Lilacs and nearby Pink Peonies bloomed as the Honeysuckle crept along the fence sprouting delicate white and creamy yellow blossoms. All of these fragrances intermingled each and every Spring " in the garden of my mother " ! She's been gone almost 11 years now but these two scents remind me of her... Guest guest
My mom is sort of a perfumista in her own right, so she has tons, so the only perfume that stands out in my mind is Opium, she does have lots of Avon too though. But there is something else she wears, but I don't know the name of it. Sugar cookies. I have an experience burned in my mind forever. I came home from school one Valentines day and my mom had a tray of heart-shaped sugar cookies cooling on top of the fridge, covered in red and pink sugar. I'll always remember that. That was a great suprise. Baking pie crust. She made the best pie crust " cookies " out of the scraps of her homemade pie crust, with cinnamon sugar on top of them, baked till crispy-yum! I had a similar situation at work with my co- workers. I used to make pie crust cookies with left over puff pastry scraps and cinnamon sugar. My co-workers loved me! Cigarettes. My mom smoked most of my childhood but thankfully quit, permanently, in the mid 90's. Unfortunately, my brother, who used to give my mom the hardest time about smoking, including hiding her packs of cigarettes on her, took up the habit about the same time she quit! All of the fragrant flowers that grow in her garden-peonies, roses, lily-of-the-valley, hyacinths, and the lilacs that our neighbor would let her pick huge boquets of every May. Kool-aid and Freez-pops. I grew up on the stuff, my mom always bought tons of it, and she was a total " Kool-aid Mom " . Dog. Not that she smells like a dog, but every dog that we've ever had, and there has been many, has basically been " her dog " . She's a housewife, so she was always home, and took care of the dogs mostly,so all of them bonded with her the most(and me second, because I'm an animal person). So, mom, to me is a total dog person.
