I don't count calories anymore, but every time I've spot checked them

over the last 3 years, I've been averaging around 2,300 a day. Right

now I'm taking plain creatine powder (Phosphagen) and that's it as far

as strength/recovery supplements.

I've also been taking glucosamine, chondroitin, and MSM for my joints.

It's been about 3 weeks and I'm just now starting to feel real

improvement in my knees. I take fish oil because I was turning into a

flax seed. And I take a calcium supplement.

> I was just wondering what you're doing for supplements now, , since you

are in pursuit of 50 pullups. Also, do you keep track of calories, or just kind

of guesstimate?

, how do you get the fish oil down? I tried that for a while, but

the gagging got to me, so I switched to flax and eat salmon every week.

Capsules, and they're sweetened. They taste kind of like gummy bears.

I'm only taking 2-3 a day because there are a lot of other healthy

fats in my diet. When the fish runs out, I'll probably switch back to

Udo's, then back to flax. I tend to alternate.

, I think I did the math and you'd need to take 15 capsules to

equal 1 Tbs of oil (like the flax oil problem). Maybe I'll go back to

having a few fish caps/day as added insurance, but I havent found any

that taste ok. After they are 'absorbed' by my stomach, I start

burping yucky fish taste. Blah! I've not seen the gummy bear kind

here in Canada.

I always take them with food in the morning and had the fishy burps at

first but then they went away. Occasionally it still happens though

but not like the first week I started them - gag!

No burps or aftertaste on the kind I take. It's just a grocery store

brand that's molecularly distilled. Of course, it's probably because

I'm only taking a couple of them. If I swallowed all 15, I could

probably come up with a fish burp that could clear a room. :-)

Felicity, that is what I gagged down for a while. I'm afraid I did

have the 'repeat' problem, unlike you. Oh well. ;-(

Is there some advantage to taking the fish oil over the Flax or

UDO's? I'm wondering why you would fight it. Of course, I'm usually

a little slow on things! ;o)

Elise, there is a difference between fish oils and flax oils. They

both have EFA's but fish oils are considered an optimal source. Here

is a brief description why:

" There are several Omega 3 fatty acids. They are named ALA (alpha

linolenic acid ), EPA (eicosapentanoic acid) and DHA (docosahexanoic

acid). ALA is found in flaxseed oil whereas EPA and DHA are found in

fish oils. ALA is able to convert into EPA and then into DHA, but this

takes several enzymatic steps in the body, and not everyone

efficiently converts ALA into EPA and DHA, particularly with aging.

So, the bottom line, I prefer fish oils to flaxseed oil, although a

small amount of flaxseed oil is also good to take. "

Thanks ! Still, think I'll just stick to eating some fish

rather than burping fish oil! :o)
