Apryl you are so sweet! I'm glad this works better too. I got all 5 of the PHH workouts (as a set) on ebay for $34 (includes shipping). You can also find individual PHH workouts there. I didn't check half.com (I never think of it for some reason).

You asked if we all workout 7 days a week... I try to do at least 5 and when I can 7 just because it feels so good. I started out in Dec. 2006 with just 2-3 a week and being thrilled there, I've built up gradually.

I don't know this particular Kathy video, but I know Kathy and if this is anything like the other workouts of hers that I have I'd suggest that you might want to choose shorter, less intense videos for now. It sounds like you could be pushing them a bit too hard (given their ages and exercise background). WATP ( Sansone) are really great and beginning exercisers often like her a lot. Maybe make a plan to start with less intense stuff and gradually work up to the more intense workouts as they seem able and interested? I know I used to start off super strong and feel like I was doing so great, then I'd either get injured or especially lose interest because it was just too hard and I couldn't sustain it. I don't know how many times I did that. I started using 's videos and still do but also do a lot of other stuff now too. The point is, I know you don't want to kill them but you also don't want to push them so hard that they walk away exhausted instead of like they did something really fun and really great for themselves too. Just a thought, I'm not there and am not trying to criticize you at all, I'm just saying this based on your comments about the class and the impression they left on me.

For your traveling time, can you take walks? Also, could you pack some resistance bands and workout with them in a hotel room? They are very compact and lightweight so I'm assuming they might work for a motorcycle? There are lots of exercises for them posted all over the internet. You could print some out and take them with you if you didn't have your own ideas about what to do with them (I'd need the printouts, that why I suggest them).

Apryl,

Sometimes I workout seven days a week and other times I only do 3 or 4. It just depends on my schedule. If I find I'm not going to be able to do a workout one day, I'll try to do an extra long workout another day to make it up. I think it is more a matter of consistancy over the years then how many days per week you workout.

wahhhh no PHH on half.com!! I refuse to buy anything new and I am not

going to spend much on anything b/c it is for work and I won't get

reimbursed. If I knew I would like it I wouldn't mind b/c I would take

it with me when (if) I left.

I actually have thought about taking a band with me on trips- I really

do like them. But when we are packing for a trip that is the last

thing on my mind. I need to make it the first!! As for walking - I am

a little nervous to walk around parking lots of motels. If DH would go

with me that would be different. But he says he is afraid to exercise

b/c he might get a muscle!! ROFL!!

It is very very hard to find something that everyone can do in class.

I think next class I will do a 30 minute Sansone walk and the 15

minute yoga part of the DVD that has the 15 minute walk and yoga on

it. Then I will do about 15 minutes of some weights w/o a video. Just

come up with some type of short routine. Everyone can use the weights

they are comfortable with. I just think it is so important to have

some weights work also. Especially as we age - maybe some of you

younger ladies don't know that weight resistance is one of the best

ways to build up your bones. You can not replace bone that has been

lost (obviously!!) but you can certainly strengthen your bones and

regain the bone density. RIGHT NOW is the time for all of you to be

keeping your bones healthy. Okay - I am through with my speech!! I

just know that I wish someone had told me when I was young how

important weight resistance was to keeping healthy bones. Also plenty

of calcium. Oops - I guess I wasn't quite through!

You girls (is everyone female???) really are an inspiration to me. I

am just amazed at how dedicated you are.

Today was my last day at work but I am going to try to go to the gym

every day and at least do the elliptical and crunches. I can feel my

stomach muscles getting stronger all the time!! Now if I could only

get rid of this fat on my hard abs! hehehe

Have a great evening everyone! Michele I hope you make it through your

workout. I am so sorry you have trouble sleeping. I can't function

w/o at least 6 hours and I prefer 8!!!

word document and then making the font larger!! I don't want to miss

I am totally impressed with you all!! Tonya you go girl!! All of your

workouts are so impressive! Do you ALL workout every day?? Some days

I just don't have the time. On my seven days off of work if we are on

a motorcycle trip there is no way I can even get in walking. I do try

to get motels that have workout rooms but not lots (not that I can

afford anyway!!) do. Sometimes I feel like I am just spinning my

wheels b/c when I go back to work at the gym I get sore all over

again!

Well today in the video class I started Kathy 's Full Body Circuit

(I think that is what it is called). It is 60 minutes long. WOW!! It

is terrific. But at 30 minutes I paused it and asked the ladies if

they wanted to continue (I saw that several of them were really getting

tired) or go to Slim in 6 ab work and stretching. They opted for the

abs and stretches, which I knew they would. I really wanted to finish

the Kathy workout but I don't want to kill the ladies either.

Everyone is older than I am (54) but one young lady who is very

overweight. And none of the ladies have exercised all their lives like

I have either. So I gave in. I am going to try to go to the classes

while I am off. Dont know what DH has on his riding schedule tho...

Try eBay! You can get individual copies brand new for less than retail. Possibly amazon.com too.

Thinking about it is the first step with anything important. Really! Next time, maybe you'll really want to pack the bands and will? Maybe you need to figure out when you'll actually use them and then decide if you really will. Then pack them if it still seems necessary (and it will be much more necessary if you've decided you really will). I totally understand about the walking too. Your DH sounds hilarious!

I know very well how difficult it can be to find something everyone can do in your classes. That's why I'm thinking you start with something super simple, see how they do and what they say about it, then gradually challenge them more. Also, have you done any kind of fitness assessment, even just asking, when was the last time anyone exercised regularly? What kinds of things are they interested in trying? What goals do they have? Is this a drop-in class or is there a starting and ending point? If it is a drop-in then you'd probably want to find programs that are low to mid-range and show modifications for higher and lower levels. If it is a start/end class then you have more control and can start very simple and easy, watch how they progress and add difficulty as most seem able.

I agree too that it is very important for women to do strength training but again, I want to suggest that you find very simple exercises with or without a video to teach them. (Note: Don't start with any Power Half Hour videos unless you have ambulances on hand for people who have not been exercising. They might be great for you though!)

Without being there, and truly without sounding critical especially because I don't know what you're doing I'm just guessing based on the posts I've read recently, I want to suggest you at least sound like you don't have solid plan in place, like you're just trying this and that and hoping for something to work out. That's got to be frustrating for you and them too. If I'm understanding correctly you're done with this particular group? If you have a break before your next one and are planning to use videos again, I really want to urge you to try a bunch of different videos (netflix is great for that) yourself and ask about them here and then carefully plan how and when you want to introduce cardio, strength and flexibility and how you want to progress, also what goals you have and what goals your clients likely have. Plan how you can make those things happen or at least get them started on the path toward getting comfortable with exercise (this group sounded like they haven't done much) and developing it into a true habit.

My career before kids was primarily in training (designing award winning training programs and other interventions plus all the documentation, manuals, etc. for them, assessing them and teaching them for businesses and industries). If I can be of any help to you in planning your classes I'd love to do what I can. You sound so earnest and I know you want so much for your clients. Often though enthusiasm can only carry you so far and careful planning will take you much closer to your goals.

Please don't take any offense if I'm totally off the mark, it just sounded this way to me and I thought I'd offer my truly well-meaning suggestions. If things are going much better than they sound then congratulations and please tell us how you're making the good things happen so others can learn from you too. :-)

you are absolutely the bomb!!! Thank you SO much for all of your

suggestions and help! Did I know that you did training BK? (before

kids) I don't think I did but you may have posted something about it

and I skimmed - which unfortunately I am too good at doing! I WILL try

different videos. This IS a drop in class. As I mentioned I will do

some Sansome walking for my class next Thursday (not tomorrow).

I am really excited that you all care so much.

I will have to take my bands next time we travel. I will say to

myself, " says take them so you must!!!" hehe

Don't worry about me taking offense at anything - I am ALWAYS open to

suggestions. It takes a whole lot to get me riled up! I always assume

that people mean to help me not hurt me.

I nearly peed when I read your remark about having an ambulance

ready!! Believe me I have thought about that! Hey - would you like to

join us next Thursday? The very southern tip of Louisiana can't be

THAT far from you! Unless you are one of the Canadians that has been

posting. In that case it is quite a ways.......

BTW my DH IS absolutely hilarious!! He makes me laugh all the time.

Sept 30 will be 35 years that we have been laughing together.

Well I am off to bed (sorry !) so I can get up and go to class

in the morning!

Blessings to all of my new friends-

Carolyn isn't in Windsor, I'm not quite sure where she is but somewhere in Ontario and I know it would be more than 1.5 hours for us to get together. That time puts me just past the border. Would be fun though!

That's about what I figured. I have a rough idea of where you are based on something you said at some point and a friend who lives in Saint Cathryn's (or however it is spelled).
