I've recently had my bodyfat read and I have to admit that I can't

beleive it. They told me that I am at 23% but, I still have a bit of a

belly and I for some reason I thought 23% would be alot leaner...

Anyways, I've looked on bodytracker.com and I've seen a spectrum of

pictures in which people say that they are at a certain bodyfat, but

when you compare them to someone else , then their body looks

completely different (I know you can't compare people, but I figure

their should be some similarities like if someone tells me they are

5'7 and weigh 170, then I have a general idea of their body).

So my question, is there any website that sures good pictures of what

someone who is a certain bodyfat should look like?

You'll never find something like this because the body fat percentages

will look different on everybody. Even if two people have the exact

same percentage, they could carry it radically differently. Height,

weight, age, frame size, body type, musculature, bone density and even

skin elasticity will change the way things look.

Say you have two people who are 5'5 " 125 pounds and 15% body fat. One

of them is 30, pear shaped with small bone structure, light

musculature, and has dieted her way there from 175 pounds. One of them

is a 20 year old college rower who's a natural mesomorph with a large

bone structure, wide shoulders and obvious muscles. In both cases,

they weigh 125 pounds and 15% of their total body weight is fat, but

the visual going to be waaaaay different.

And that's if their height and weight is the same. You can imagine how

squirrely it gets if you start trying to compare somebody who's 5'2 "

and 110 pounds with somebody who's 5'9 " and 150 pounds. They might

look exactly alike at 18% body fat. OR, one of them could have a small

light bone structure with large muscles and look very athletic and

cut, and one of them could have big dense bones with small muscles and

look very smooth and flat. OR one of them could be an apple shape who

carries the majority of that fat in her abs while the other one is a

pear shape and has a totally ripped upper body but no definition in

her legs.

Once you've looked at a whole slew of people at varying heights,

weights and body fat percentages, you can start to make a reasonable

guestimate as to what someone's body fat might be, but the visual

isn't ever going to be foolproof. It's why some fitness and figure

competitors can walk onstage at 12% body fat and look fabulous while

others need to hit 7% to achieve the same definition and muscularity.

Fitness pros will always tell you that it's about the look and not

about the numbers.
