Guest guest
Anybody have a 3 yr old who has decided he won't eat? I know there can be so many reasons for not eating, but its driving me nuts. I dont want to even approach our boy with food cause i know what is going to happen, there is going to be a huge tantrum and i will end up feeling awful. kids have to eat though. I think he is sick of our GF/CF diet. He got a taste for chips and i think he thinks every meal should be chips! any advice?? We have tried all kinds of recipes and approaches. Guest guest
Hi I am sure you tried these suggested approaches, but our son Luke wa a terrible eating - I used to stress out about it so much. We found the following things helped: Zinc supplements Making meal-times fun - with no pressure on him at all to eat (We all played with the food and he started to think he was missing out) We stopped giving him food after he refused his dinner - he would always get his cracker (which is one of the 5 food items he would eat) after he didn't get dinner which meant he never had any reason to try anything else Stopping sugar - Luke used to eat soya yogurts and biscuits - but after we stopped these - he started eating a wider variety of food Sorting out his anaemia problem (getting him to eat beef and spinach dishes - which was very very difficult) - when he was very anaemic - he seemed as though he couldn't care less about food More exercise to increase his appetite Trying to stop myself stressing about his eating as I am sure the more he sensed I wanted him to eat - the more he stopped eating Playing imagnatively with food in the playroom - having lots of pretend food which we fed his toys with lots of fun. Holding out and only offering good healthy food - e.g. veg soup (offered in a fun, postivie - non-stressful way - not easy) - until he ate it - the longest I held out was 1.5 days You may well have tried the above!! My heart goes out to you as I found Luke's lack of appetite one of the hardest things to endure. You do get there in the end - Luke still doesn't eat a huge range of food - but it is better. He ate home-made turkey burgers tonight with mashed potato - no veg - but one day he will. Lots of love to you Nicola My boy won't eat, i think he is "sick" of GF/CF Anybody have a 3 yr old who has decided he won't eat?I know there can be so many reasons for not eating, but its driving me nuts. Guest guest
And only a very humble personal opinion but I would rather give him just chips than nothing and gradually expand from there. I think it’s best not to make a big steaming issue out of it. Easier said than done, I know. Sara x Re: My boy won't eat, i think he is " sick " of GF/CF Zinc supplementation, and B- vitamins in general, esp Vit B12 , might do something to taste and apetite, so if you have any way of giving him that, eating habit might get better.. Guest guest
My son is three and if you let him, he'd eat french fries for three meals a day and he'll refuse other food in the hopes of getting some. What made the biggest difference for us was addressing viruses at some level. It is about the only thing we've kept from our gains made during the viral protocol--a willingness to try *some new foods. What we've had some luck with is building on to the favourite foods. For example, when I do make him fries I'll also make some chicken nuggets and cut them into a french fry shape and then line those up in the ketchup with the fries. Our son will eat yogurt and I've been able to add lots of stuff he won't eat alone into the yogurt. Never too much, but building up over time. Also, because my son is three he's old enough to understand " all gone " but not old enough to know we're lying to him. Showing him an empty bag and saying all done a dozen times might not cause him to eat something else immediately (and may cause a fit), but it does seem to have an impact. Good luck. It's very frustrating, I know, approaching each meal time with dread. Anita oh, and for the record, I personally feel a lot of GFCF food does taste pretty awful and I don't blame the poor kids for not wanting it. It'd be different if we could feed them some wonderful spicy Thai or flavourful curry, but...even my very best GFCF banana muffins were still pretty ack. > > Anybody have a 3 yr old who has decided he won't eat? > > I know there can be so many reasons for not eating, but its driving me > nuts. Guest guest
Gee, thanks people. didnt realise it was such a common problem, a real heartache when it happens! Will check out the zinc and b vits. Actually getting my boy checked for hypothyroidism. he is low on iron and i am hypothyroid anyway, so may be a connection there. Until then, chips it is! > > > > Anybody have a 3 yr old who has decided he won't eat? > > > > I know there can be so many reasons for not eating, but its driving > me > > nuts.
