Legal Aid used to be available for preparation for SENDIST (although did not

cover representation on the day) including funding for expert reports.

Outrageously, it is no longer available at all for Tribunal. So parents lose

out even if they qualify for Legal Aid. Currently Legal Aid (not called

that any more but same thing) is available for Judicial Review, so if you

get grounds to review a LEA decision on a point of law, you can instigate a

JR, and be fully funded, this can also apply if you have a technical ground

under the law to challenge a SENDIST decision.

I can recommend ASSET (Advocacy Services and Special Education Training)

although they are rather heavily subscribed at present, web site is :

www.asset-gb.org

I agree that Parent Partnerships are to be avoided since the individuals are

counted as the 'enemy' and are certainly not impartial as they may claim.

Legal aid is available for SENDIST. The problems start for people

who don't qualify for it. Parent partnerships are just lea reps

in my experience. I think I would have done better at Tribunal

than my legal rep. He knew the law but I knew my case if you get

me. IPSEA do a free advice and representation service. My

tribunal had a legal chair who just said " I know that " to

everything my legal rep said.

Celia, Have the rules changed very recently? I was awarded Legal Aid

(I know it's called something else now) in March this year for

Tribunal preparation.
