Guest guest
Hi Sara We are in the process of losing our funding. We are in our 7th year. We originally did ABA full time from age 2 at home 40 hours per week. 2 hours per fortnight supervision. This progressed into mainstream school and then 2 years ago at age 7 an autistic unit. Last year it was decided that the ABA would only be a home programme after school and the supervision would be once a month. The tutors still provide 1to 1 at school but the LEA are trying to get rid of this now so i think I can see a tribunal coming up again. We had to go to tribunal in the 1st place we had a great barrister. We would not be able to fund that this time but I do feel more confident 7 years down the line. The after school funding is sure to go so I am trying to get that transferred to social services through direct payments. We are currently using Autism Partnership for consults and supervision. We usually have a supervisor once a half term for 4 hours.I dont think i will be able to keep this my main concern now is to keep the 1to1 support at school and some time after school and holidays. We are in Stoke on trent and the only family receiving funding in this authority we are always being threatened with closure but up to now i have been able to fight for an extension. Hope this helps let me know if you need anything else mariella
Guest guest
Hi Sara My son Jordan is 9 doing OK has become very reliant on 1 to 1 has no speech but great understanding. I am glad we did ABA it has taught him so much. Don't be nervous about tribunal. Take a photo of your little one in as they will be talking him about him as though he is a thing not a person and just introduce him to the panel. How old is your child and how long have you been doing ABA. mariella
Guest guest
Thank you Mariella, I would like to ask you a couple more questions if you don’t mind. How many hours per week do you employ your supervisor? And whereabouts are you? Thank you very much, Sara x Re: ABA/ VB supervisor Ours costs £40 per hour plus travelling expenses 40p per mile. regards Mariella Good luck! -- No virus found in this incoming message. Guest guest
Thanks again Mariella, Tom started ABA in August 2005, aged 2 and 7 months. He said his first words ‘hallway’, ‘alley’ and ‘marble’ about 2 months later. His speech development was slow after that. In April 2006 we switched to VB and Tom’s speech exploded. Tom had had little trouble with ABA and had learnt most things surprisingly quickly. He really struggled with VB which indicated to me that it was really attacking his deficits whereas ABA was continuing to polarise his abilities (at least relatively). We have a workshop booked on Friday and Tom has been working on pronouns ‘me’ ‘I’ and ‘my’ which he has got. He’s also been working on desired and factual ‘yes’ and ‘no’ – also mastered, and on retrieval of objects amongst other things. VB is amazing but he has also responded very well to lots of biomedical interventions. He is verbal but not very conversational and I noticed at Christmas that nobody outside of our team and my mother knows how to communicate with him on any level whatsoever so we still have our work cut out for us. Thanks for the tip about the photo and thanks for your help again, Sara x Hi Sara My son Jordan is 9 doing OK has become very reliant on 1 to 1 has no speech but great understanding.
