I would love to do this myself. > What are dregs? > Caterina > i am calling 'the dregs' whatever is left in the pot after the batch is 'exhausted'...i started with cacao nibs from the local health food store and ground them to a powder and put them in the still pot with water....afterwards there was a lot of oil floating on top! if you are set up for distilling, it is easy. if not, i bet it's not too difficult. dabney artisan distilled hydrosols http://www.dabney-rose.com scent@... Guest guest Posted October 4, 2008 Report Share Posted October 4, 2008 Maybe the " cacao oil " collected by Dabney is largely made from fats (cocoa butter) and not the " scent " part obtained by chemical extraction (like in absolute). This is why it solidified during the night. And the same goes for coffee (coffee beans have also rather high oil content). Any thoughts? So let me see. If I boil the chocolate powder that I use for chocolate milk it will form oil once it's boiled and then cooled.
