The rule I use is if the product is to be used in such a way that no water will

be introduced, then no, no preservative needed. those products are usually in a

malibu tube or bottle. However if there is a possibility of getting water in,

like a whipped body butter in a scoopable jar (step out of shower and put on

butter before competely drying off), I would include a little preservative.

 

With aloe based products I would consider it a " water based product " which would

need preserving. Depending on your aloe manufacturer, there is probably already

preservative in the aloe. If there is no other " water " in your mix, you might be

fine, I usually err on the side of safety and add preservative.
