Guest guest
Hi, Some family GPs are taking home more than £200,000 a year under new NHS contracts. Two thirds of GPs were on more than £100,000 a year. The income is linked to new contracts introduced in 2004, where practices are paid for their services by the Primary Care Trusts. The more services provided, the more money earned. GPs are operating as a small business. If the public and the Government or health service dont like that, they should renegotiate the GP contracts and put them on a salary. The contracts were introduced to keep doctors in the profession at a time when many were leaving the NHS. A large proportion of GPs earnings is now linked directly to the quality of care they provide. Payments are made for services such as contraception,VACCINATIONS, child health and chronic disease clinics. See the link http://www.ic.nhs.uk/news/press/pr291106. I know there is a queue to get those GPs jobs - house sold recently beside me to a couple (mid 20s )of new qualified medical students who just cant wait to finish their practical experience and get those jobs. Speaking to them is like speaking to robots - brainwashed on the medical service. Sad world. Bridget
