Guest guest
Anita, you might want to check out the new Vitamin K board and the use of VSL to break down oxalates, in lieu of or instead of the low oxalate diet. Fwiw, thinking it is a much more superior way to go than the diet. Btw, welcome back, hoping the New Year holds promise for lots of answers for you. Re: Dilation of pupils >> > As the discussion lots of factors contribute to the "problem",> Large pupils from my experience could be seen with high ammonia,> have that been tested ( urinary and stool pH ?. ).Haven't had this test done. Can it be done at home with the pH papers? Other testing has indicated possible ammonia issues; however, we've been low protein for 5 weeks now and using AKA for part of that time with no noticeable benefit. Other anti-ammonia steps have not been taken because Canada Post lost my parcel containing all the supps to address it (insert profanity).> > Any evidence about if there is still peptides in the urine ?? Guest guest
Hi Anita, If you have any specifics on the cautions Owen's had, I'd be interested in hearing what they were. I never saw anything but some vague "I'd be careful", which is what I say to anyone even if they are just crossing the street. I may not even understand the cautions, or I might, but I like to be given the specifics of what they are. Just 4 weeks of Vitamin K, a harmless fat soluble vitamin, brought our serum calcium into range for the first time ever. Another 6 weeks and they are down even further. Managing calcium correctly has huge benefits for our kids. Btw, the cow is gone, yeahhhhh!!!, my spring flowers are thanking me in advance and we have found another way to get that good raw milk for our girl, although I might get busted. Never thought it would come to this, that's for sure. I think SCD is probably the most healthful diet and what I would have gone to if I had known about it when we could not do the cf/gf diet. Good luck to you, Anita/was: Re: Dilation of pupils Hi ,I've read the Vitamin K paper you're referring to, rather too quickly I'm afraid. I also read Owen's comments (or at least some of them--not sure I got to all of them) and I must say I'm a bit leary about the K theories. Of course I don't understand the science, which leaves me completely unqualified to make any sort of assessment, but I do know believe that is careful and her cautions make me, well, cautious.Having said all that, if we do go to another special diet, it will be SCD. I am hoping though to try other routes first, including perhaps NAET and then more nourishing traditions sort of stuff (slowly trying to get there for everyone, but unlike some people I envy ;-) I don't yet have a cow in the backyard). Restrictive diets, at least for us here, just suck. I hate them. As for the VSL, I have been meaning to look into it, but having read that people with diarrhea problems use it, I've put it to the bottom of the list because our issues here are just the opposite. Thanks for the welcome back and good wishes :-)Anita>> Anita, you might want to check out the new Vitamin K board and the use of VSL to break down oxalates, in lieu of or instead of the low oxalate diet. Guest guest
Bridget, We didn't have to do enzymes as there are a ton of them in raw milk. I don't know if there are other improvements that I can pinpoint specifically to raw milk as we were doing so much back then. The raw milk was part of our organic diet that we did for a solid year to allow her to heal, along with the chickens and the eggs. I would advise purchasing the raw milk rather than the cow. I really don't like cows and this one was daft, really. The last straw is when my dgd had left our back french doors open and the blame thing came right into my kitchen. It also ate all my flowers, would get them from everywhere in the yard and then come to the back door and stare at me with the flowers in it's mouth chewing. It now has a nice home on a neighboring farm where my dh and dgd go visit it and we get the milk, cream and some butter also, so nice deal. Anita/was: Re: Dilation of pupils Sorry for the confusion Bridget. I don't have access to raw milk. It is simply a dream of mine so far. used to own a cow but now just gets the raw milk. The main reason I would like raw milk is because I went to a presentation by Sally Fallon, the founder of the Weston A Price organization. Her work, based on Price's work, is very compelling. You can look up their stuff here: http://www.westonaprice.org/index.htmlI am trying to switch my family to a more Nourishing Traditions (her cookbook) way. It's a long haul though, partly because we can't get stuff like raw milk, partly because it is time-consuming to prepare food the traditional ways.Sorry I can't be of much help.Anita>> Hi Anita,> > Raw milk cannot be commercially sold in UK and I have tried to source some locally but no organic dairy locally.
