Speakers

Zwick, Ph.D., received his Ph.D. from the University of California at . He went on to complete his postdoctoral training in human genetics, first at Case Western Reserve University, then at the McKusick-s Institute of Genetic Medicine at s Hopkins. Dr. Zwick joined the faculty of the Department of Human Genetics at Emory University School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor in December 2004.

Sheila Wagner, M.Ed., earned her undergraduate education degree from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and graduate degree from Georgia State University. Ms. Wagner is currently an Assistant Director for the Emory Autism Center, and Program Manager for the MONARCH School Program. She is the author of three books, including "Inclusive Programming for Elementary Students with Autism," "Inclusive Programming for the Middle School Student with Autism and Asperger's Syndrome," and "Understanding Asperger's Syndrome: Fast Facts."

Kulka, M.A., holds a Bachelor's degree from the Univ. of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Master's degree from the Univ. of Mississippi. She is currently working on her Doctorate in Educational Leadership at the Nova Southeastern University. Over the last 10 years, she has worked with students with ASD across four different counties, and was also nominated for Disney Teacher of the Year in 2002. Ms. Kulka has supervised and managed staff from 2 to 250 over the last 7 years, and has provided on-site support to over 100 schools.

About the Conference

With the incidence of ASD rising rapidly and the political drive for best practices through No Child Left Behind and IDEA, inclusion will be impacting the classroom of every teacher in the U.S. Many are struggling to find ways to meet the needs of all students. This conference will introduce participants to the current best practices in educating students with ASD in the midst of typical students as well as provide the latest genetic research available in solving the puzzle of autism through a keynote address by Zwick. In addition, a second keynote address by Sheila Wagner and Kulka will look at bridging the gap between research to practice and identifying future initiatives for education. Whether the student is diagnosed with Autism or Asperger's Disorder, whether the profile is mild, moderate or severe, research based strategies for promoting success in your classroom and home will be discussed. Both professionals and families will find important information to affect K-12 children with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
