Guest guest
Hello - I just got a kombucha culture from my friend. She included some liquid with it and told me I need to use about 1/2c of that along with ???? to get it going. I don't want to mess anything up! I tried to search on the internet to figure out what to do with this thing, however there are too many pages to sort through ... hence the reason for joining this group. My questions more specifically? I have a big glass jar (about a gallon I think), a coffee filter and rubber band to cover the top with, the culture, some of the liquid, green tea, and yes, I even have some white sugar. Is that all I need or am I missing something? Do I only use 1/2c of the liquid she included with the culture? There's about 2 1/2 to 3 cups it seems. How many tea bags should I use? How long should I let them steep or brew? [steep - let it sit in the hot water covered; Brew - simmer in water (or does it matter which one I do?)] Do I let it cool down first? If so, how cool should it be? Should I add the sugar when the water is hot to make it dissolve easier? Can I use something else besides white sugar (don't like the stuff, but will use it if I have to just for this). I have raw cane sugar .. will that work the same? What happens next? When do I know it's time to drink it? When it's time to drink it, do I just add more water to replace what I took out, or do I need to add more tea & sugar? When a 'daughter' culture forms, can it become a 'mother' in a new jar? How much should I drink each day? What about my children? (they are 13 and older) OK ... I think that about covers it all!! I'll spend some time looking at the group page ... maybe several of my questions will be answered there. Thank you for your help.
