There should be guidelines on the state board of education website on their transportation policy. You might also ask for mileage and a wage to take your daughter to ESY. I have looked and looked, but I haven't seen anything, at least not anything that I can make sense of or get opened on my computer. I did see that Cobb Co strives for no more than 1hr on a bus. This is driving me nuts.

My son is in pre-k ESY in Fayette County this summer from 9 am to 1 pm and while this is a small county in terms of size, the mostly rural road system makes the bus ride more than an hour long for the program's pre-schoolers. At our IEP meeting they were very forthright about warning us about this issue and told me that it would be a much longer ride that during the school year. Bobby loves the bus, but gets very irritable when hot and sweaty. So, since the summer school is less than 15 minutes up the road from me, we decided to drive him primarily so I can get him home in time for his nap. I use the drive time to get his listening therapy sessions done. He rides the bus during the regular year, since that school is farther away, but the ride is a lot shorter. I know this option won't work for everyone, but I work flex hours and run out to get him during work. If you're in a

larger county, I don't know what your options would be, especially if they have to divide the kids by age on the buses.- mom to Bobby, age 3.5, dx "mild" autism, seriously sensory-seeking, starting to talk, and knows his numbers 1-30 and all the ABCs!

call trasportation and speak to a supervisor. Present your case

of " to long " based on her diagnosis....to much sensory stimulation

on a bus for that amount of time etc...they won't understand enough

of what you are saying to tell you that you are incorrrect....if you

child suffers from any type respiratory condition also mention

that...the bus is hot in the afternoon

We moved here during the middle of the school year, and I was never provided with anything showing the times that buses would arrive either time of day. Is this something that they have to provide and how do I get this? Sierra is moving to a new school this year, and I don't know what her new bus times will be. They probably won't matter since I will be providing transportation 95% of the time, since I am also moving my oldest daughter to that school. However, I am not happy with with this summer bus schedule.

We live in Cobb Co. and had the same prob. a couple of years ago during ESY. After riding the hot bus for an hour, Owen almost got sick when he got off. I was told by transportation that an hour was an acceptable length of time and they didn't have enough buses with AC...I ended up going into work late every day for 5 weeks and my stepmom packed up our infant daughter and picked him up. I couldn't put him through that every day, he was only 3 at the time. Riding the bus for over an hour in this heat is ridiculous esp. for our kids. They need to get with it.
