Guest guest
I just returned from my excellent oral surgeon in Fort Lauderdale and in scheduling for a procedure I mentioned I had BioAlcamid in my cheeks. He went to medical school in Canada and he was aware of the material. He mentioned as an aside that he is treating someone with an infection in his cheek who had silicone micropulets injected there over 5 years ago. I asked several times if he was sure the silicone was injected with the microdropulet technique and he said that was the exact wording that the patient used. He is treating the infection with antibiotics only at this point and is hoping that he doesn't have to open the area up and try to debride the area since the silicone would be so diffuse. The also said that the treating physician for this patient was a dermatologist and it was done locally. I had about 5 treatments done with silicone microdropulet injection done with Dr. Orentreich in Manhattan about 6 years ago without any problems and significantly improved results over the Sculptra and BioAlcamid treatments I had. I was not aware of any later stage complications being reported on this site with the silicone microdropulet technique so I thought it important to report this even though my information was obtained second hand from the treating physician. The doctor told me he could not identify any precipitating factors for the infection (like injections, trauma , etc.). He did suggest that somehow an infection started in the vicinity and spread to the silicone treated areas. This patient may have been a poor risk, I don't know what he immune system looks like (although the doctor would have mentioned that as a factor I think if that was the problem). I also don't know who the original treating dermatologist was. I guess the take away would be to be suspicious early if a problem seems to arise in the treated area for whatever reason. I personally was happy with my experience with silicone microdropulet technique in New York City and would do it again.
