Guest guest Posted August 21, 2010 Report Share Posted August 21, 2010 I wrote a few weeks ago about our new insurance not covering subq and leaving us with the only option of doing IVIG. Tristen did her first infusion on Thursday, we were admitted into the peds dept at the hospital and there for about 8 hours. She was premedicated with benadryl and tylenol and was given a minimal amount of iv fluids (but still given some). She felt fine during the whole process and the rest of the day. On Friday morning she said she had a small headache but nothing too bad or out of the ordinary. She went to school on friday, which was only from 8:30-12:00 (she's in kindergarten). When I picked her up she still seemed fine but still said her head hurt a little. We were planning on going to a park with her cousins for a few hours. We met them there, but Tristen wasn't up to doing too much and after an hour or so said her head and stomach hurt and wanted to go home. We went home and Tristen took a nap. At 6pm she woke up and was in excruciating pain from a headache (I've never seen her in this much pain). I gave her tylenol and within a few minutes she vomited that up. She couldn't keep anything down after that, even water. I decided to take her to the er, since I knew she couldn't keep any meds down and she wasn't getting any better. Once we were seen, they started an IV, gave zofran for vomiting and morphine for the migraine. The on call dr decided to admit her to watch her overnight, and we're still at the hospital now. Is this a normal reaction for IVIG? Do we need to slow the rate down even more than we did? Is it the product? (she was given gammunex). I'm just so frustrated that the insurance company wouldn't pay for subq after it working for 2 years previously, and now the new insurance company is gonna have a HUGE bill from the IVIG and now from ER and being admitted. I'm hoping this can help us fight them to cover the subq, but I can see a fight on our hands. Anything thoughts or insight would be really helpful!
