If anyone missed it, it would be worth getting the DVD's or CD's that will be available on the NAA website in a couple of weeks. Overall I found the conference wonderful, but also very overwhelming because of the limited time in between speakers and the unexpected emotions that are brought out at hearing such a volume of information in such a short period of time. It felt rushed and I didn't get to spend as much time at the exhibitors as I wanted because I didn't want to miss any speakers. We had to choose between breakout speakers a few times. I was with 2 other moms from Georgia and we didn't see that many folks there from Georgia. But there was quite an attendance, it was so nice to meet and get to talk to parents from all over the country. I didn't get to attend on Thursday but attended Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday started with 's presentation at 8:00 in the morning. She presented a new film on her experiences with her son on their autism journey. That was so courageous in itself, putting herself and her family out there to all the scrutiny. At the Q & A at the end, someone asked her about Autism Speaks, which her parents founded. She mentioned that there would be some changes coming to Autism Speaks, something to the effect that it was time for " out with the old and in with the new. " Then the lineup of speakers was Doreen Granpeesheh, Jill and Kenitz spoke about her miracle daughter. Then Wakefield spoke on the gut issues with our kids with ASD and it was disturbing to see the slides after slides of gut inflammation being found in 70- 80% of our kids with ASD's. And then McCarthy was very entertaining . She and her son's speech therapist came up with some videos to teach play skills www.teach2talk.com Next at the HBOT forum there was a panel of speakers. Dr. Dan Rosignnol presented alot of scientific research and studies going on in the field of HBOT and autism. If anyone would like my notes on the Toilet Training worshop by Batts on Potty Training, let me know. Wow, you think you know it all. She was an engaging speaker with lots of tidbits and a great sense of humor. Fascinating!lol The 9:00 pm movie premiere of filmakers Don & nne King, Beautiful Son, is a must see! www.beautifulson.com This is supposed to be coming to public tv in April 08. This film shows the raw experience in living with autism. For me it brought to screen the incredible stuggle of dealing with the diagnoses, the doctors and the overwhelming choices and responsibility the autism journey brings. Saturday: Deidre Imus was just an incredible speaker. I am still left with an incredible sense of awe for all that she has done and is doing. She is an incredible advocate for all children. She is very passionate about our kids and the environment and is trying to change things one step at a time. We went to the evening " Dinner at the Movies " which was a blast. There were all kinds of auctions to bid on in order to raise money. There was a line of baskets of items from the exibitors and all kinds of movie posters. And also including in the auction was auctioning off the services of certain Doctors that were willing to give their time and services! Kudos to all the doctors that gave their services and in particular Dr. Wakefield raised alot of money. There was quite a madness that seem to come over people that were bidding on him. Sunday: We heard speakers on RDI, Life Planning for Special families, Oxidative stress, Healing the New Childhood Epidemics by Dr. Bock, and Ayoub on Aluminum, Vaccines and Atuism Spectrum. At the exhibitor's booths someone won the raffle for dolphin therapy, all I know is, it wasn't me. At this point I could use some dolphin therapy myself...lol. I found Dr. Anju Usman's presentation " What is Bugging Our Kids? " with the newest information on her True Health Gut Biofilm Protocol in particular helpful for me, a missing part of my son's puzzle. Well I hope this gave those that couldn't attend a small glimpse into this awesome conference. Ann Collett mom to , 14, autism NAA Conference Those who went….how was it?? Guest guest
Hi, I thought the conference was great. I have four inches worth of papers to go though. So much information was presented it is hard to absorb it all, especially the Biomed stuff. I need to write up a list of all the things I want to talk about with our DAN doctor. I think said she hoped things would change at Autism Speaks concerning what research they fund but she also said she hoped she wouldn't get in trouble for what she said which I thought was sad. McCarthy talking about the CDC and trying to get into see and talk to someone about toxins in vaccines was great. I hope two weeks of dolphin therapy in the Carribean with the whole family is one of the missing pieces to help with treating autism. Wow, what a door prize on top of a great conference. > > Certainly sounds like an incredible event!! > > > > Missy > > > > I am who I am because that's who I am. > > -----, 8 > > > > All kids are gifted, some just open their packages earlier than others. > > ---- Carr > > > > > > > > _____ > > From: autism [mailto:autism- georgia ] > On Behalf Of Ann Collett > Sent: Tuesday, November 13, 2007 6:34 PM > autism > Subject: [sPAM] Re: NAA Conference > > > > Hi Missy and everyone, > > > > The National Autism Conference was awesome!
