Guest guest
Dear Georgia Families and Friends: Now is the time to contact our US Representative and ask them to co-sponsor HR 2421 The Combating Autism Act. Please see CAN action alert below. Heidi Fernandez Vice President Atlanta CAN ChapterParent and Advocate "Knowledge is Power" "To the world, you may be one person, but to one person, you may be the world." The Combating Autism Act of 2006 Passed the Senate!! Time is short to pass the House. We must act now! We currently have 142 House members cosponsoring the house version, HR 2421. We need 218 cosponsors, a majority, in the next 30 days to give us our best shot at quick passage in the House. Please call your Congressman today and ask them to cosponsor HR2421! Make an appointment to visit them while they are home in district this month! Go to www.combatautism.org to find your Representative. If your Congressman is already listed as cosponsoring, no action is needed, but you can call and thank them for their support. Here's what you can do to help: Call your Representative’s Washington office immediately. Go to www.combatautism.org to get your congressman’s contact information. Ask to speak to the Health Staffer. If you get voicemail, leave a message asking them to call you back. If you reach the staffer, tell him or her that you are a constituent, that the Combating Autism Act of 2006 passed the Senate by Unanimous Consent, and you are asking your Congressman to join the 142 existing House sponsors of HR2421 and the US Senate as a cosponsor. Let them know we expect the Combating Autism Act of 2006 to pass this session, therefore you are asking for your congressman’s immediate support as a cosponsor. Let them know they can get more information about the Combating Autism Act at www.combatautism.org. Tell them that to become a cosponsor of HR.2421, they can call Taryn Keyworth in Congresswoman Bono's office at 202-225-5330 or Cohen in Congresswoman DeGette’s office at 202-225-4431. Ask them to call you back at your number and let you know if you can count on your Representative to cosponsor the legislation. Unless they will commit in a few days to cosponsor, tell them you would like an appointment to meet in person, then ask for an appointment to visit your Congressman while they are home for August recess. Also, most Congressman have websites where you can obtain local phone numbers and addresses. Call back every two days until you get an answer on their co-sponsorship one way or another. Be polite, but persistent. Forward this alert to anyone that would be willing to make a phone call for your child. Please let us know what you heard! Contact us on the www.combatautism.org website if they give you a clear "yes" or "no" to co-sponsorship, or any other information they might have given you. We need to know what they are saying to you, their constituent! Thank you for your support!
